Connected Hearts, Strong Minds ❤️ As we wrap up February, we’re celebrating a month filled with connection, learning, and support for our kids’ emotional wellbeing.

Throughout the month, we explored what youth mental health really looks like, simple ways to strengthen daily connection at home, how to recognize when extra support might help, and the powerful role our entire community plays in raising resilient, confident kids.

Here’s the truth we keep coming back to: 👉 When hearts stay connected, minds grow stronger.
Kids thrive when they feel seen, supported, and surrounded by caring adults — and that’s something we build together.

Let’s keep showing up for our youth — not just in February, but all year long.

If your child, family, or someone you love could use support, you’re never alone.

Strong communities raise strong kids because children learn who they are—and who they can become—through the people around them. Every encouraging word from a teacher, every check in from a neighbor, every moment of patience from a parent, every supportive program in the community… it all adds up. Kids feel safer. They feel seen. They feel valued. And when children feel supported by more than just their immediate family, they develop resilience, confidence, and the ability to navigate challenges with a sense of belonging.

The Living Room exists to offer a calm, welcoming environment for individuals in our local communities seeking mental health and substance use support. It’s a free, non clinical space — a compassionate alternative to the ER when someone is experiencing a non-medical behavioral health crisis.

Our small but dedicated team shows up every day with compassion, care, and a commitment to the well being of every guest who walks through our doors. Recently, questions have come up about occasional temporary closures.

We want to offer clarity and reassurance: Our space is staffed by a small but dedicated frontline team, including trained Recovery Support Specialists who use their lived experience to help guests de escalate crisis situations, set short term goals, develop coping skills and wellness plans, and feel safe and supported.

Because we operate with a smaller team, there are moments when staff must step away to:
• respond to urgent needs
• transport a guest safely
• manage illness or staffing shortages
• navigate severe weather

When this happens, we may temporarily close to ensure we never compromise safety or care. We know this can be frustrating. If you travel from out of town or arrive during a difficult moment, an unexpected closure can be disappointing — and we sincerely regret any inconvenience. We encourage guests to call ahead when possible, and we are actively working on better ways to communicate changes in real time.

At the heart of all we do is safety, dignity, and compassion. We care deeply about this community, and we remain committed to providing responsible, supportive care through The Living Room — today and every day.

📞 For non crisis concerns, please contact Arukah Administration at 815-872-2943 directly.

For this weeks Connected Hearts, Strong Minds Series we’re focusing on the small, everyday moments that help kids and teens feel seen, supported, and emotionally grounded. We'll share some practical mental wellness habits families can build into everyday routines — plus some emotional communication strategies that strengthen trust between parents and children.

You don’t need hours or perfect routines — just a few intentional minutes of connection each day can strengthen trust, reduce stress, and build resilience for the whole family.
