The Living Room exists to offer a calm, welcoming environment for individuals in our local communities seeking mental health and substance use support. It’s a free, non clinical space — a compassionate alternative to the ER when someone is experiencing a non-medical behavioral health crisis.
Our small but dedicated team shows up every day with compassion, care, and a commitment to the well being of every guest who walks through our doors. Recently, questions have come up about occasional temporary closures.
We want to offer clarity and reassurance: Our space is staffed by a small but dedicated frontline team, including trained Recovery Support Specialists who use their lived experience to help guests de escalate crisis situations, set short term goals, develop coping skills and wellness plans, and feel safe and supported.
Because we operate with a smaller team, there are moments when staff must step away to:
• respond to urgent needs
• transport a guest safely
• manage illness or staffing shortages
• navigate severe weather
When this happens, we may temporarily close to ensure we never compromise safety or care. We know this can be frustrating. If you travel from out of town or arrive during a difficult moment, an unexpected closure can be disappointing — and we sincerely regret any inconvenience. We encourage guests to call ahead when possible, and we are actively working on better ways to communicate changes in real time.
At the heart of all we do is safety, dignity, and compassion. We care deeply about this community, and we remain committed to providing responsible, supportive care through The Living Room — today and every day.
