Hey friends (scroll post) I’m back to the grind after a 5 day break, which was so needed, I didn’t realize just how much my body needed sunshine and slow mornings until I was in it. Holy s**t, between the quiet mornings and long balmy walks, I found myself again.

To be honest, coming home and being thrown right back into cold weather, mom-life + work-life has been tough, but to top it off we came home to my daughter having diarrhea and vomiting all week so we’re juggling the no-school struggle as well 🤦🏻‍♀️

While away and in the midst of my calm, I journaled small routine actions I need to be more purposeful in doing when I return to real life. Since I’ve been home with a sick kid and work demands, guess how many of these I’ve done? 🤪 it’s amazing how quickly that happened.

So I’m posting this list HERE and somewhere in my home where I will see it daily, to constantly remind me to focus on these small actions, because small bites lead to a whole meal, and I need to feel more like I did on those 5 days away, a whole ME.
(Also need to move south.. but that’s in the works.)

As much as I love slow mornings in real life I’ve learned I need to combine tasks to get them done, and I also need to try for a routine BUT be flexible because, kids, dogs and work.

examples of this?
- I’d love to stretch first thing in the morning but my daughter keeps getting up earlier and earlier, it’s as if she knows when I set my alarm for. So I’ll stretch between clients instead.

- I can combine oil pulling while I stretch or while I shower or prep for clients, two birds, one stone.

What are your bodhi bites? Maybe this will encourage you to think about that, write them down, and post them somewhere you will see them daily. Share them with me I’d love to see 💜

The Bodhi Tree 🌳 is where the Buddha was said to have sat when he reached enlightenment.

Bodhi is formed from the 🌱 root word ‘Budh” meaning “to awaken, to know, to understand”. It is most commonly translated as “to awaken or become enlightened”

Bodhi Nutrition means to awaken to what your body needs. Get to the 🌱 root cause of your symptoms, gain a deeper understanding of how to eat for your individual metabolic & gut health. Your final stop to nutritional enlightenment.

Last year around this time I went on a quest to re-vamp my practice, my offerings, and the depth to which I could help people. After 10 years as an RD I was at a weird point.. bored within my practice, frustrated with how much I could truly do with my clients, and wondering if I still wanted to be an RD.

After some soul searching I realized I was no longer feeling authentic and inspired within my business as I had grown and changed so much since starting it. My own struggles with health along with many years working with client’s who struggled lead me to advanced trainings and certifications. This has meant long nights of studying, sacrificing fun for courses, putting a whole lot of my own money back into my business, all with the end goal: a business I could be proud of and a practice that could best support and guide those who are lost in their health journey.

I could have very easily stayed the course with my business as it was, it was a full time practice, I had my routine, it was fine, it was SAFE.
But I wanted to do more, be more, and offer more. ☀️ If you want more, my advice to you is to TAKE ACTION ☀️ take some risks. Do what’s difficult. You will be happy you didn’t stay in your comfort zone.

2021 was a year of taking action, and 2022 is going to continue on that same path. I’m excited to see how much further I can go and how many more I can help.

Happy NYE friends 💜

I said it.

I’m all for intuitively eating, it’s what I do 99% of the time and where I want my clients to get to! However, to intuitively eat in a way that supports your body and your goals, you have to know what your body actually needs and how to get there!

I’m all for listening to your hunger cues, some days we will need more food than others! However, if you were raised in the clean plate club, if you’ve been restricting and ignoring hunger for a long time, if you’ve been overeating and pushing passed fullness, or ✨ if you’re eating foods that change your hunger and fullness hormones ✨ then the signals you are receiving are NOT giving you correct information!

Sometimes we have to take a few steps back in order to then move forward and this means learning how to eat in a way that supports your appetite hormones, nourishes your metabolism, and fuels your body goals appropriately… this is done through education and intentional food choices. Eventually, leading to that beautiful world of intuitive eating.

Just a little food for thought today 😘

Why did I change it?

At first glance that original quote feels nice… don’t rush, don’t worry, don’t have anxiety about where you are or your future, trust life’s timing, you are right where you need to be, yada yada.

But at second glance my thoughts are this ☀️: if you keep waiting for the perfect time to start, you may never start. If you keep putting your trust towards the universe rather than taking action, you may never get to where you want to be. Yes, most good things take patience but they also take hard work and discipline to get there. Sometimes you have to make the decision to start, you have to take life by the horns and make the good stuff happen.

This can apply to almost all aspects of life but (surprise) I’m going to apply it to your health.

If you’re tired of feeling unwell, if you’re fed up with your current situation whether that’s feeling uncomfortable in your skin or actually feeling sick with digestive issues, if you’ve tried other things only to be back in the same s**tty situation, if you want to feel proud of your body and the way you treat it, if you want to feel like you’re healthy and thriving… if you’re finally ready to end the “on “ and “off” rollercoaster of dieting and just eat the best for YOUR body .. then the time to start is NOW.

Make the commitment that this new year will finally be the year you heal and find your bodhi 💜

The time is NOW.

Holidays are often a time when we experience a bit more digestive pains.

But, do you have chronic Gut issues?

Here are 3 Signs it’s time to dig deeper:

1. You’ve had a colonoscopy + endoscopy and results were normal or they were abnormal but you’re unsure of why/what’s causing it

2. You’ve made dietary and lifestyle changes with little to no improvements (especially if these changes were suggested by a nutrition professional and you still aren’t seeing improvements)

3. You’ve cut out basically all foods and live in complete food fear (it feels like everything triggers symptoms)

If you’ve checked these off, it’s time to dig deeper. You could keep shooting in the dark and adding foods to the avoid list OR you could investigate with functional nutrition and finally have a clear path to healing.

✔️ A stool test will reveal imbalances in bacteria and yeast, presence of parasites, how your digestive function is working, if there’s inflammation, if there’s an immune-based inflammatory response happening, if you have a sensitivity to wheat products, and if you have leaky gut.

✔️ The LEAP MRT test will look at 170 foods and chemicals (including food dyes) and test your sensitivity to them. These food and chemical sensitivities can lead to inflammation, gut issues, migraines, and body pains.

These two pieces of information will reveal:
- the WHY behind your issues
- the WHAT we need to treat
- and I will design for you the HOW to heal

Make 2022 your year to get rid of your stomach issues and find your Bodhi 💜

You don’t have to go all in or all out. You’re not “on” or “off”. Learning how to balance holidays so that you can enjoy them and still take care of yourself is 🔑 to life long sustainable wellness and weight management. You can have the cake AND the kale salad, because you enjoy both.

We are in the thick of the holiday season which means heavier foods, more sugars and refined carbs, increased dairy and maybe alcohol. I feel it’s important to enjoy some of the festive indulgences and encourage my clients to do just that. However, if we feel sick from these indulgences that can really put a damper on enjoying the holidays.
I love to encourage focusing on what we can INCLUDE more of rather than what we should eat less of. Including broth daily or at least a few times a week can really help with maintaining healthy digestion throughout the holidays.
A routine that we have in my house is making roasted chickens on a Sunday along with plenty of roasted vegetables with garlic and onion, herbs and turmeric. I will then turn this into a hearty soup a few days later which lasts us dayssss.
Slide through this post for other broth ideas and maybe you will be inspired to include more warm nourishing soups through the holiday season.

I’m so pumped to be a certified LEAP Dietitian and get to offer client’s the best food sensitivity test available! The MRT LEAP test is an added, amazing layer to discovering the root cause of:
-IBS/GI distress
-Migraine headaches
-Chronic pain and inflammation
-And even weight loss resistance

MRT does not measure IgG, IgM, or IgE. It is not a test for food allergies. MRT measures the release of mediators from WBC.  Mediators are proinflammatory chemicals that cause inflammation in the body which leads to symptoms.  MRT tests a blood sample against 170 different food and chemicals to see if WBCs release mediators and if so, how much mediator was released.

If you test negative for food allergies, this does not mean you are free of food sensitivities!

All other food sensitivity tests on the market are IgG based. IgG’s are proteins produced by the immune system for protection. The problem with IgG testing is that the presence of IgG to a food does not always indicate a proinflammatory response.  IgG can be elevated just because your body decided to flag a food for inspection, not necessarily because your immune system marked that food as harmful.  Another role of IgG is to act as a memory or tolerance for your immune system, which means that elevated IgG can be protective and normal. Which means foods you eat frequently may come back as high IgG, but your body just remembers that food well.

If someone gets an IgG Food Sensitivity Test, they only test one possible mechanism for food sensitivities. MRT LEAP not only tests for ALL inflammatory responses in the body but we then follow up with a very structured elimination diet followed by systematic reintroduction of specific foods and testing of tolerance.

This test is a game changer and I’m totally psyched to offer it! More posts to come on how this test compliments stool testing, + how food sensitivities can be connected to leaky gut, SIBO, + weight loss resistance.

DM me if you want more info and wonder if you may be a candidate for the LEAP test 💜

In my over 10 years of working with clients I’ve noticed most people run into the same struggle:
They want:
- easy, quick meals
- And they don’t want to spend hours cooking
BUT they also want:
- Food with flavor
- Variety (they don’t want to eat the same prepped meals 5 days in a row!)

As a working Mom, I understand this dilemma so well!

Bodhi bowls have been my go to for years, and I encourage my clients to do the same. They check all the boxes!

- The bases take about 1-hour out of your week to prep and putting your meal together will take 5 minutes at most.
- It’s not a salad every day
- It’s not chicken + broccoli 5 days a week
- They can be fun and delicious!

The trick is finding flavor combinations you love, and easy to whip up sauces or healthy bottled dressings :)

When looking at bottled condiments and sauces what we look for varies from person to person, a professional can help you with brands and label reading to suit your needs.

As always, serving sizes vary from person to person too!

Do you make Bodhi bowls? What’s your favorite combo?
My go to is often a quick asiany mix of brown rice, a protein and veg, tamari and siracha 😋

Happy Monday! If you’re a client of mine chances are we’ve discussed .
The carbohydrate dilemma or debate is never ending, and the truth is, how many you need is dependent on many factors like your body size, activity level + exercise, physical goals, stage of life, genetics and health status.
Making sure you get the right amount of carbs is essential. However, understanding WHEN to eat them and WHY can be useful and help accelerate your progress.

Carbohydrates are for energy.

If you view carbohydrates as energy, it would make sense that the best time to consume them would be when we are the most active, right? (Of course the science is much more complex than this, and yes we store carbs as glycogen in our muscles and liver. But I’m simplifying for this.)

By following this model you are doing a few things:
- Fueling your body when you most need it
- Improving energy levels and preventing crashes
- Some studies show a positive effect of carbohydrate intake close to exercise and increased rate of muscle growth, or at the very least, prevention of muscle loss
- Improving blood glucose stability
- Enjoying carbohydrates in appropriate amounts while not over-consuming (increasing fat storage)

This model isn’t for everyone, as you will see with Person D, some people truly benefit from consistent carbohydrates throughout the day. And on the flip side, occasionally I’ll meet with a client that does need a very low carbohydrate diet, at least for a while.

However, majority of my clients sit somewhere within Person A, B or C.

Following this model can give structure and clarity and often people feel better and less confused on how to build meals and snacks. This is a great feeling!

This carb timing design is a tool I’ve created, but is a great example of there is no one-sized-fits all eating plan. Individual serving sizes will vary as will the types of foods and times of day! This is where working with a professional can be useful; we can analyze YOU and work with you to design the best plan to meet your goals.

What are your thoughts? Do you like this design? Does it overwhelm you?
