The days are getting longer and the sun is getting hotter and brighter. But did you know too much sunlight can hurt your eyes?
The sun’s UV rays (like UVA and UVB) can cause problems from temporary sunburned eyes to long-term risks like cataracts and macular degeneration. Even if you’re not staring at the sun, reflections off water, sand, or snow can make the damage worse!
Short-term, you might get red, itchy, watery eyes and feel sensitive to light—sometimes called “snow blindness.”
Long-term, your eyes can develop more serious issues so it’s smart to wear sunglasses and protect your eyes from a young age.
