If you mention the word “visual” to an OT, it can mean SO many things including...
visual perceptual (make sense of and interpret what is being seeing)
visual motor (coordinate eyes and hands to draw and write, such as copying shapes, handwriting, lining up math problems, etc.)
ocular motor skills (“eye movement skills” important for reading and writing development)
visual sensory system (the eye and the brain communicate and work together to help interpret our physical surroundings using sight, or, what we see)
• visual attention (awareness of visual information necessary for noticing details, adjusting to patterns, reading, and so much more of the giant visual processing umbrella)
one of my go to tools in my toolbox is a visual timer, which is a great way to increase independence with executive functioning (time management and awareness, transitioning between activities and envisions, and shifting attention between tasks.
