Pain in labor is real… but the way you experience it? That can change.
One of my favorite tools to support women through labor is a TENS unit 🤍
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) uses gentle pulses through pads placed on your lower back to help block pain signals and encourage your body to release endorphins (your natural pain relief).
Meaning… you’re not numbed out.
You’re still present.
Still in control.
Just with more support.
Here’s why so many women love it:
• Drug-free pain relief
• Helps lower perceived pain levels during contractions
• Can support smoother labor with fewer interventions
• Promotes relaxation between contractions
• Can be started at home in early labor
• Gives you an active role in managing your pain
• Works beautifully alongside other comfort techniques
And here’s the part that matters most:
knowing how to use it well.
As a doula trained in TENS use, I guide you through:
→ proper placement for maximum relief
→ when to increase intensity during contractions
→ how to use it effectively as labor progresses
→ when to transition away from it if needed
Tools don’t replace support, but they work best with it.
If you’re planning a natural or low-intervention birth and want to feel more prepared going into labor, this is one of those simple, powerful tools that can make a big difference.
