👁️ What is a Sensorimotor Exam?

A sensorimotor exam evaluates how well your eyes work together and how your brain processes visual info, vital for depth perception, focus, and coordination. We test binocular vision, clarity, color perception, and how vision links with motor skills for activities like reading, sports, and driving.

This exam helps detect learning challenges in kids and assess vision after brain injuries. Early diagnosis means tailored treatments to improve vision and quality of life for all ages.

👉 If you or your child have vision issues, schedule your Sensorimotor Exam today!

👁️ What’s a Comprehensive Eye Exam? 👓

A comprehensive eye exam is more than just checking vision, it’s a full look at your eye health and visual system. At Prosper Family Eyecare and Vision Development Center, we go beyond basics to catch issues early, even without symptoms.

Your exam includes reviewing your medical and vision history, testing clarity and prescription, checking eye muscle coordination, performing a slit-lamp exam, no-puff glaucoma screening, and detailed retinal imaging or OCT scans.

These exams detect vision problems like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts, as well as systemic health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure, plus eye coordination problems and dry eye.

Most people need an exam yearly, but those at higher risk may need them more often. Early detection protects your sight. Call us to schedule your exam today!

Struggling in school? It might be a visual processing issue. 👓🧠📚

It’s not always about blurry vision. Sometimes the issue is how your brain processes what your eyes see, things like tracking words, focusing, or skipping lines while reading.

An eye exam can uncover more than just nearsightedness, it can reveal visual processing challenges that impact learning, attention, and confidence in the classroom.

Seeing clearly is just one piece of the puzzle, make sure all the pieces are working together!

🧠👁️🧩 Stop by for perceptual testing today and discover how your brain interprets what your eyes take in!

🟣🔴⚪️ Ever played Spot It! and thought it was just a quick matching game? Think again! This fast, fun favorite is actually a secret superhero for building visual processing skills—and we’re taking it to the next level with...

📅 Spot-It September!
Each week, we’re sharing 4 creative ways to play that challenge the brain, boost focus, and make learning fun for all ages. Whether you’re at home, in a classroom, or using it in therapy, there’s a version for YOU!

✨ This month’s Spot-It September twists:
1️⃣ Traditional – Classic match-it-fast gameplay
2️⃣ Memory Chain – Match a pair, flip it down, then match another and recall both previous matches. Keep going and test your memory chain!
3️⃣ Deck Hunt – Call out a random image and race to find all the matching images in the deck.
4️⃣ Room Match – Place cards in separate rooms and race to find a match across spaces—great for adding movement and spatial challenge!

🎲 Traditional Spot It! builds:
🟣 Form Constancy: Recognize images even when their size, angle, or position changes
📸 Visual Memory: Recall visual details and previously seen images
🔁 Sequential Memory: Track and remember the order of matches during fast play
🔎 Visual Discrimination: Spot subtle differences between similar symbols
🧠 Figure-Ground Perception: Find the one match hidden in visual clutter
🧩 Closure: Mentally complete partially seen or overlapping images

🎲How to play: Each player gets one card; the rest go in a center stack. Everyone looks for the one matching symbol between their card and the center card. First to spot it calls it out and takes the center card, replacing the previous card. Keep playing until the stack is gone. The player with the most cards wins!

Perfect for families, teachers, and therapists looking for screen-free, brain-boosting fun.
🎯 Fast play. Sharp focus. Big gains.

👀 Seeing Double?

Double vision or diplopia is when you’re seeing two of the same thing, and not in a fun or artsy way. It can happen in just one eye or both, and it’s usually a sign that something’s not quite right with how your eyes are working together.

Sometimes it’s caused by eye muscle issues, nerve problems, or even conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, a stroke, or a head injury. Your eyes and brain are a team, and if something throws off their coordination, you might start seeing double. You might catch yourself squinting, tilting your head, covering one eye to clear things up, or even getting headaches or eye strain. Sound familiar?

👓The good news, there are ways to fix it. Treatments can include prism glasses or vision therapy, depending on what’s causing it. But first step? See your eye doctor. Because double vision isn’t just annoying, it could be a sign of something more.

Build Visual Skills While You Play! 🟨🔵🔺
Did you know that playing Get the Picture: The Head to Head Dot to Dot Race is a fun and effective way to strengthen essential visual processing skills?
Whether used at home, in the classroom, or in therapy — this simple activity has BIG benefits for developing eyes and minds!
Here’s what it’s helping develop:
🔷 Form Constancy – Recognize shapes and objects even as they're drawn line by line in a different order or orientation.
🟠 Visual Memory – Remember dot placement and sequence as you move from one number to the next.
🔺 Sequential Memory – Recall the number order — a foundational skill for reading, math, and following instructions.
🟣 Figure-Ground Perception – Focus on the numbered dots while ignoring extra marks or visual distractions. (Try covering part of the page with a piece of paper to make locating specific numbers less demanding!)
🟩 Spatial Awareness – Understand where each dot is in space and how to connect them accurately to form a bigger picture.
🟨 Closure – Mentally “fill in the gaps” to recognize the full image, even before all lines are drawn.
💡 Learning through play doesn’t get much better than this.
Perfect for kids, families, educators, and therapists who want a low-pressure, screen-free way to build critical visual and cognitive skills.
🎯 Play smart. Build skills. Connect the dots.

🌀 Feeling Dizzy, Lightheaded, or Off-Balance?

You may benefit from a Videonystagmography (VNG) test — now available at Prosper Family Eyecare!

VNG is a powerful diagnostic tool that uses infrared video goggles to track your eye movements during a series of simple tasks. Because your eyes and inner ear work closely together to help maintain balance, these eye movements give us valuable insight into how well your vestibular system (inner ear) and central nervous system are functioning.

Whether you're experiencing vertigo, motion sensitivity, or unexplained imbalance, VNG testing offers a safe, non-invasive way to identify the root cause and guide your next steps toward treatment.👁️‍🗨️ A closer look into your balance system.

Play of the Week Wednesday 🧩✨New puzzle strategy just dropped! 🧠✨
Want a smoother, more satisfying puzzle experience? Try this step-by-step method:
1️⃣ Flip all the pieces over, picture side facing down—start with a clean slate.
2️⃣ Sort into 3 groups: corners, edges, and middle pieces.
3️⃣ Lay everything out, picture-side up for visibility.
4️⃣ Build the border first to frame your space.
5️⃣ Fill in the middle by tackling easy image sections (like faces, signs, or color clusters).

And it’s more than just fun—puzzling boosts visual processing and essential brain skills like:
🧠 Form Constancy – Recognizing pieces even if they’re flipped or rotated.
🧠 Sequential Memory – Remembering where key colors or patterns are located.
🧠 Figure-Ground Perception – Spotting that one perfect piece in a sea of others.
🧠 Visual Closure – Identifying incomplete images, like part of a face or pattern.
🧠 Visual Discrimination – Telling tiny differences between similar-looking pieces.

Perfect for brains of all ages—calming, challenging, and totally addictive. 🧘‍♀️

Tag your puzzle crew and give this mindful method a try! 🔍🧩
