Research demonstrates that maintaining prolonged static postures—such as sitting or standing for extended periods—places sustained compressive loads on the facet joints (also called zygapophyseal joints) of the spine, promoting localized inflammation that can contribute to chronic back and neck pain. Specifically, studies have found that limited movement reduces the normal flow of fluids and nutrients through spinal tissues, fostering a pro-inflammatory environment in the facet joints. Over time, these repeated or ongoing inflammatory processes may sensitize pain pathways, increasing the likelihood of persistent discomfort and more enduring musculoskeletal issues.

Relief for Acute Back Pain: The Power of Chiropractic & Acupuncture

Acute back pain can strike suddenly—whether from lifting, bending, or even just getting in and out of your car. When pain disrupts your day, finding fast and effective relief is crucial. That’s where the combination of chiropractic care and acupuncture comes in.

Why Choose Both?
These therapies work synergistically to address the root cause of pain and provide relief:

Chiropractic Care:
Realigns the spine and joints to restore proper function.
Relieves pressure on nerves and reduces inflammation.
Improves mobility, making daily tasks like bending and lifting less painful.

Acupuncture:
Stimulates your body’s natural healing mechanisms.
Increases blood flow to the affected area to promote tissue repair.
Releases endorphins, your body’s natural painkillers, for immediate relief.

The Combined Approach:

Quick Relief: Chiropractic adjustments restore alignment, while acupuncture alleviates tension and enhances relaxation, providing faster results.

Improved Functionality: Together, they reduce inflammation and improve muscle function, helping you move with ease.

Lasting Benefits: This dual approach addresses both the symptoms and underlying causes of pain, reducing the chance of recurrence.

Does Acupuncture Help?

Research supports the effectiveness of acupuncture in managing chronic neck pain, low back pain, and sciatica. A pooled analysis of 29 studies involving nearly 18,000 participants revealed that acupuncture provides significant pain relief compared to standard treatments or no treatment. This meta-analysis found that acupuncture's benefits stem from its ability to influence the central nervous system, reduce inflammation, and improve blood circulation, which facilitates healing and pain reduction【1】【2】.

For sciatica specifically, acupuncture targets nerve pathways, enhances nerve function, and promotes blood flow to alleviate pain and prevent recurrence. Regular sessions can help maintain balance and reduce chronic symptoms【2】.
Additionally, modern research has identified the neuroanatomical basis for acupuncture's effects. Studies at Harvard Medical School demonstrate that acupuncture activates specific nerve signaling pathways, reducing inflammatory responses and modulating pain perception, which is especially beneficial for conditions like chronic back pain【2】.

These findings highlight acupuncture as a safe, evidence-based option for managing these types of chronic pain.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a type of computerized controlled traction that helps relieve back pain. Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. That changes the force and position of the spine. This change takes pressure off the spinal disks, which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine, by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.

At Triple Oaks Chiropractic and Acupuncture, we use nonsurgical spinal decompression in an attempt to treat:

✅Back or neck pain or sciatica, which is pain, weakness, or tingling that extends down the arms or legs
✅Bulging or herniated disks or degenerative disk disease
✅Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

Acupuncture: A Safe and Effective Option for Chronic Pain Relief

If you're dealing with chronic pain that hasn't improved with traditional treatments, acupuncture could offer the relief you've been searching for. According to Dr. Lucy Chen, a Harvard-affiliated pain specialist, acupuncture is not only safe but comes with minimal risks compared to medications.

How Does It Work?
Acupuncture involves the painless insertion of hair-thin needles into specific points on the body, believed to balance the flow of energy, or qi (pronounced “chee”). Scientifically, it works by adjusting the body's neurotransmitters, hormone levels, and immune system, promoting natural healing.

What Does the Research Say?
A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, which reviewed data from 18,000 participants, found that acupuncture can reduce pain by up to 50%, similar to the relief offered by conventional pain medication.

For people experiencing chronic pain, acupuncture could be a powerful, natural alternative to manage pain and improve quality of life.

Relieve Peripheral Neuropathy with Acupuncture at Triple Oaks Chiropractic & Acupuncture

Peripheral neuropathy can cause unbearable pain and numbness, making walking on hard, cold surfaces feel like stepping on ground-up glass. Damaged nerves in the peripheral nervous system lead to tingling, burning, and pins and needles sensations in the hands and feet.

At Triple Oaks Chiropractic & Acupuncture, we offer effective relief through acupuncture. Acupuncture therapy restores blood flow, stimulates nerve pathways, and supports nerve regeneration and preservation. By targeting areas with nerve damage or diminished sensation, we can re-stimulate nerve fibers and alleviate symptoms.

The Mayo Clinic recommends acupuncture as one of the top alternative therapies for treating peripheral neuropathy and nerve-related symptoms. Let us help you find relief and improve your quality of life.

If your posture looks like this then you could suffer from upper cross syndrome!

Long hours of sitting at a computer, watching television, or using a smartphone can contribute to bad posture. This prolonged poor posture can weaken the rhomboid and neck flexor muscles while tightening and shortening the pectoral and upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles.

Upper Cross Syndrome often manifests in a very visible way. Many people will notice their shoulders become more rounded and hunched over time, while the neck and head crane forward. The spine will also start to curve inward near the neck and outward in the upper back and shoulder area.
The imbalanced muscles associated with Upper Cross Syndrome put stress on the surrounding muscles, tendons, bones, and joints, causing most people to develop symptoms that include:

• Headaches
• Neck pain or strain in the back of the neck
• Chest pain and tightness
• Pain in the upper back, especially the shoulders
• Difficulty sitting, reading, watching television, or driving for long periods of time
• Restricted range of motion in the neck or shoulders
• Numbness, tingling, and pain in the upper arms
