Dementia is a major public health issue in Washington. About 127,000 people age 65+ in Washington are living with Alzheimer's (the most common form of dementia). It is the 3rd leading cause of death in the state, behind cancer and heart disease. This means dementia is not rare-it's one of the most significant health threats in the state. Washington is facing a future surge in dementia cases, which will affect healthcare, families and budgets. It is not just a medical issue, it's a massive caregiving and economic burden on families.
