🌊 The River of the Mind 🌊

Imagine your mind (citta) as a river—thoughts and distractions (vrttis) flowing constantly.

Yoga shows us how to observe these currents without being carried away.

Through skillful action in asana, we cultivate steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukha) in our practice.

Yoga by the body, for the mind. 🕊️

We look forward to welcoming you IN.

Picture your consciousness (citta) as a river, constantly flowing with thoughts and fluctuations (vrttis). Yoga teaches us to observe these currents without being swept away.

Through precise and mindful asana practice, we cultivate both stability (sthira) and ease (sukha)—building a bridge from restlessness to stillness, from disturbance to peace.

This is the path: step by step, breath by breath, crossing toward calmness and clarity.

New? We'd love to welcome you into our community!

Mobility gets us into the pose.
Stability helps us stay.

Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon) is a place to practice both—moving with awareness, then finding steadiness. 🌗

Practice with Paul on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM!

“Mobility is kinetic energy; stability is static energy. A practitioner of yoga needs both qualities—the inspiration to proceed and the adhesiveness to establish oneself.”

Backbending Week at IYS 💫

Backbends often feel bold at first glance, but in Iyengar Yoga we approach them with steadiness, clarity, and thoughtful preparation.
When the body is supported and aligned, these poses don’t feel overwhelming—they feel spacious, energizing, and deeply uplifting.

This week, we’ll explore how intelligent sequencing and mindful action create backbends that leave a good impression… the kind that makes you want to return and refine again.

Join us in the studio or online as we build strength, confidence, and openness—one thoughtful step at a time.

“Backbends are not poses meant for expressionism. Backbends are meant to understand the back parts of our bodies… The back body can only be felt.” — B.K.S. Iyengar

This week, we’re turning inward — sensing, noticing, and awakening the back body with care and curiosity. Come explore what’s possible.

Relationship Between Simple Asanas and Pranayama
A 6-Week Online Series with Pranati Pratap

We’re delighted to welcome Pranati Pratap, senior Iyengar teacher from Pune, India, back to Iyengar Yoga Source for a six-week exploration of asana and breath.

As Pranati shares:
“Simple and accessible asanas open the door to understanding the breath in both asana and pranayama. Through different poses, we observe the breath from many perspectives and uncover its vast potential in yoga.”

🗓 Thursdays, Jan 15 – Feb 19, 2026
⏰ 8:00–9:15 AM
📍 Online from home or In-Studio (live-streamed at IYS)
💫 6 weeks | $120

Each week, Pranati will guide standing, twisting, and seated poses from her teaching space in India, inviting observation of the subtle relationship between body, breath, and mind. No specific ability level is required—this series is about curiosity, awareness, and experience.

“Practicing with Pranati was truly enriching—her teaching planted seeds that continue to influence my practice, my mind, and my life in ways I didn’t anticipate.”
— Rebecca

Uttanasana (Intense Stretch)

When the legs work clearly and deliberately, the spine can lengthen with ease rather than strain.
Press the thigh bones back, lift the kneecaps, and ground evenly through the feet. Allow the torso to descend because the legs are supporting the action, not because the back is pulling.

As steadiness settles in, begin to observe. Notice sensation, subtle shifts, and the quality of your attention. In this stillness, the pose becomes a lesson in witnessing the present moment without turning away.

A forward bend, practiced with awareness, reveals steadiness, clarity, and quiet presence.
Join us this week as we explore the art of forward bending.

The Plumb Line: Finding Equilibrium ⚖️

B.K.S. Iyengar taught alignment as samastvam—evenness and equilibrium.

Every body has a central plumb line. From that center, we guide the left and right sides toward equal stretch and equal sensitivity. It is from this precise balance that we find sthira sukham āsanam—true steadiness and ease.

This week in our Teacher’s Choice classes, we are putting this into practice. We are observing where one side feels clear while the other feels dull, and where the breath moves freely versus where it meets resistance. This observation is the heart of the method.

Reflecting on 2025: Teacher’s Choice Week ✨

As we approach the end of 2025, we are filled with gratitude for this community. This year brought significant change: we moved into a larger upstairs space and said goodbye to our beloved senior teacher, Linda Di Carlo, whose influence continues to guide everything we do.

In his final interview, B.K.S. Iyengar shared how he learned through direct observation:
“I used to look at my body. Why this toe is acting and this is not acting? Why this side is straight, this side is crooked?”

This week, we step out of the Pune cycle. Each teacher will observe the students in the room to decide exactly what is needed - where to build steadiness, where to create space, and where to offer support. It is a celebration of the skill our teachers have built over decades of observing and responding in real time.

Join us for our final 2025 practices:

💖 Put Your Heart in the Foreground

Try just one pose, or flow through the full sequence, and notice what happens when you really open your chest and let your heart lead the way.
B. K. S. Iyengar said yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self. Even a few mindful breaths can help you feel more spacious, steady, and present. ✨

Which pose in this sequence opens your heart the most? Share in the comments—we’d love to hear!
