🦠 The Gut Microbiome & GI Cancer: A New Frontier

Recent research presented at UEG Week 2025 highlights how the gut microbiome may play a crucial role in gastrointestinal cancers β€” from the stomach to the colon. Beyond the well-known H. pylori, other microbes and lifestyle factors like diet, medications, and antibiotics can influence cancer risk.

Emerging advances β€” including AI-assisted diagnostics and f***l microbiota transplantation (FMT) β€” are paving the way for new approaches in prevention, early detection, and treatment.

πŸŽ€ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month β€” and it’s also a time to highlight the important connection between some breast cancers and pancreatic cancer.

Certain inherited breast cancers, particularly those linked to BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, can increase the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. That’s why early detection and proactive screening are so important.

At University Gastroenterology, we offer advanced pancreatic cancer screenings to help identify risks early β€” when treatment can be most effective.

If you or a family member have a history of breast cancer, talk to your doctor about whether pancreatic screening is right for you. πŸ’œ

πŸŽƒ Pumpkins aren’t just for decoration β€” they’re great for your gut!

Packed with fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients like vitamin A, pumpkin supports healthy digestion and can help keep your GI system running smoothly. Fiber promotes regularity, while antioxidants help reduce inflammation in the gut.

So go ahead β€” enjoy that pumpkin soup or roasted pumpkin this fall! Your digestive system will thank you. πŸ’›
