Can Lifestyle Changes Reverse Poor Heart Health?

To improve heart health, experts recommend several key lifestyle habits: follow a heart-healthy diet (such as the Mediterranean, DASH, vegetarian, or pescatarian diet), exercise regularly, avoid smoking, get adequate sleep, and maintain healthy weight, cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. Microplastics Detected in Prostate Tumor Tissue.

Examinations of prostate cancer tumors from ten patients revealed microplastic particles in all but one sample, with cancerous tissue containing approximately 2.5 times more plastic than adjacent benign tissue. The findings suggest that microplastic exposure may be a potential risk factor for prostate cancer through inflammation-related mechanisms, though further research is needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.

Muscle Strength Matters for Senior Women Longevity.

University at Buffalo researcher report that among women aged 63 and older, higher muscle strength—as determined by grip strength and chair-stand performance—is linked to a lower risk of death in the following eight years after adjusting for aerobic activity, inflammation, and cardiovascular fitness. More specifically, each 7-kg (~15.42 lbs.) increase in grip strength was associated with a 12% lower death risk, while faster chair-stand times predicted a 4% reduction.

Blood Pressure Uncontrolled in 4 Out of 5 Hypertensive Americans.

New research suggests that 79% of adults in the United States with hypertension do not have it under control, elevating their risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and dementia. However, for many of these individuals, their blood pressure readings are only slightly above target levels, suggesting that achieving normal readings is achievable with appropriate lifestyle changes.
