We are reaching out to share an important update that could significantly impact future PA students.
What is happening:
Last week, the U.S. Department of Education concluded its negotiated rulemaking session and agreed on a definition of “professional program” that excludes Physician Assistant programs from eligibility for higher federal student loan borrowing limits.
Why this matters:
PA school tuition often exceeds the proposed cap. Without access to sufficient federal loans, many aspiring PAs may not be able to complete their education—threatening the future of our profession and patient care.
If finalized as written, this rule will take effect July 2026, impacting students as early as the next academic cycle.
Here’s how you can help right now:
1) Sign and Share the AAPA’s Petition: Add your voice to urge the Department of Education to revise this proposal.
