Batuku is a living resistance.

A resistance my hips knows and has known for centuries.

In this life, I was only 6 years old when I was reminded of these ancient rhythms as the women sang, striking rhythm, while a woman in the center moved her hips freely.

Batuku is an African technology carried in the bodies of women.

A rhythm that organizes, remembers, and restores.

Batuku lives in the pelvis ~ the center of creation.
It lives in the hips. The womb. Our feet. Our hands. Our heart. Our voices. Our inherent freedom.

Batuku affirms women as holders of memory and matriarchal power. When women gather women into circle, communities rise.

This dance has endured attempts of errasure because it lives in the body. Because memory cannot be erased once it is embodied. Because women’s power is weaved into our very existence.

Batuku is alive.

Still breathing.

Still activating the power held in our movement.

This is lineage in motion.
This is resistance embodied.
This is women remembering.

Batuku. A reminder that a woman’s power is not meant to be tamed.

By age 50, up to 70% of women will develop uterine fibroids — noncancerous growths that can impact bleeding, pain, energy, and daily life.

For Black women, that number rises to as high as 80%, often showing up earlier, larger, and more symptomatic. Smh

Conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, and adenomyosis affect millions of wombs globally, yet symptoms such as heavy bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, clotting, bloating, and fatigue are often normalized instead of addressed.

Womb imbalance doesn’t usually happen all at once.
It develops slowly — influenced by stress, hormones, inflammation, and what the body carries over time.

That’s why preventative womb care matters as an ongoing relationship with the body.

Practices like yoni steaming are about tending, awareness, and intentional care — creating space to listen before the body has to demand attention.

I’m not shaming the medical system and those who provide in those systems because WE NEED THEM. And it’s also true that we have lost trust in them.It’s true that we have realized that just giving us pills isn’t working.

The earth wants us to return to Natures Medicine. It’s simple, free and abundant.

Now here is an alternative celebration that FED MY ENTIRE SOUL 🖤♥️💚🪘

Because the truth is, we can’t just take things away from our kids without replacing it with something else. From celebrating it just me and my son last year to bringing community together this year with my sisSTARS 💫✨

Big love to my sisters who held the space with me and the brothers who joined. The children who brought life and the elders who brought wisdom.

Kwanzaa feels a lot more intentional and aligned with my parenting and who I am.
