In 2013, I was the medical director of the psych ER at Hasbro Children’s Hospital where these numbers were already skyrocketing. That year, I founded the Emergency Child Psychiatry Committee at AACAP, and won a grant to study the numbers of children boarding in northeastern U.S. ERs and the lack of consistency in training and resources in major cities. TW: su***de.

300-400 physicians complete su***de yearly -an entire medical school. These are most certainly undercounted as doctors know how to make things look accidental. Questions by medical licensing boards hinder our seeking medical care. It must change.

The culture of medicine means no crying, no sleeping, no making mistakes. And no getting help.
