When asked what motivated her to donate, Rachel shared, “I believe in the power of blood donation and the impact it has on our community. I’ve set a goal for 2026 to become an All Seasons donor by donating once each season—winter, spring, summer, and fall. I think it’s important to lead by example when encouraging others to donate."

Are you ready to become an All Seasons donor too? Join Rachel in donating blood four times a year. Visit ribc.org/join to become a ! 🩸 🩸

🚨 URGENT NEED: O- & O+ BLOOD DONORS 🚨

Donate your type O blood by 2/12 and receive a $10 e-gift card as our thank you! Our inventory of O-negative and O-positive blood is at critically low levels. These blood types are critical for emergencies and trauma care, and we need your help to ensure patients receive the care they need. Registration required: bit.ly/4q70ZgW.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Hynes—a beloved educator, blood drive coordinator, and friend whose impact will be felt throughout our community for years to come. 💙

A lifelong educator, Paul dedicated his career to teaching and mentoring students at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School and Bishop Hendricken High School. Known for his compassion and steady guidance, teaching was never just a profession for Paul—it was a calling he lived every day.

Paul’s commitment to service extended far beyond the classroom. Beginning in 1979, he partnered with the Rhode Island Blood Center to host blood drives for decades, helping save countless lives. From homemade pins to balloon animals, Paul brought creativity, joy, and heart to every drive, inspiring donors and fellow coordinators alike.

In 2014, the Rhode Island Blood Center established the Paul Hynes Coordinator of the Year Award in recognition of his extraordinary dedication. That legacy continues today—most recently honored in 2025 at Mount Pleasant High School, Paul’s alma mater.

Paul leaves behind a powerful example of service, kindness, and leadership. We are grateful for all that he gave to students, donors, and the Rhode Island community, and we honor his memory by continuing the work he believed in so deeply.

Three generations of women from the Rios family answered the urgent call to donate blood, continuing a powerful family tradition of saving lives.

Pictured left to right are Alma Rios, her granddaughter Ariana Rivera, and her daughter Gina Vega. Alma started this lifesaving legacy back in 1988. Gina followed in her footsteps, becoming a regular donor in 1997, and Ariana proudly made her first donation in 2022.

Here’s to every family creating a tradition of giving back and helping patients in need. ❤️🩸

As our region recovers from the snow and ice storm, patients are still relying on a stable blood supply for surgeries, cancer treatment, and emergency care.

Severe weather disruptions led to the loss of 200 units of blood and platelets, and we urgently need your help to close that gap. When donations are delayed, hospitals feel the impact immediately.

If you’re able, please donate this week and help ensure care is available for those who need it most.

Nick had always grown up knowing that blood donation was important. But what really cemented his commitment was his time serving in Afghanistan, where he saw firsthand just how critical blood can be.

“Once I found out I had O negative [blood], I thought it was important. You never know who you’re helping,” he says. “And your body makes more, so don’t be stingy.”

Stories like Nick's are a powerful reminder that blood donation isn’t just a good deed, it’s a lifeline. Thank you for two decades of dedication and for inspiring others to roll up their sleeves and save lives. ❤️

Blood Donor Month may be coming to an end, but the need for blood isn't.

Winter is one of the most challenging times to maintain a stable blood supply, even as patient needs remain constant. Donating blood is one of the most direct ways to support patients in our community and help ensure care is available when it is needed most.

Platelets are essential for patients battling cancer, facing major surgeries, recovering from trauma, or undergoing transplants. They help blood clot, prevent dangerous bleeding, and often mean the difference between crisis and recovery.

But there’s a challenge: platelets have a shelf life of only 5–7 days.
That means our supply needs constant replenishment — and we rely on dedicated donors to keep it strong.

Your donation can help multiple patients and provide hope where it’s needed most.

💛 Give more often.
💛 Make a targeted impact.
💛 Help save lives this week.

For more than 20 years, the Munnich family has gathered around the holidays to donate blood and give a gift that truly matters. What started as a family tradition has become a powerful example of giving back during a time when donations are historically low.

This year, they made it even more special by welcoming their foreign exchange student from Norway to join them, sharing this lifesaving tradition across borders and cultures. Thank you to the Munnich family for showing that the spirit of the holidays is about generosity, community, and saving lives!
