Led by the AIDS Institute, National HIV/AIDS & Aging Awareness Day (NHAAD) is observed each year on September 18 to focus on the increasing number of people who, because of major advancements in HIV treatment, are living long, full lives with HIV. The awareness day also calls attention to the unique health and social needs, as well as the challenges of HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care among people who are aging.

This year we aim to emphasize the need for prevention, research, and data focused on the aging community and increase medical understanding of the impact of HIV on the natural aging process.

More than half of people living with diagnosed HIV in the United States and dependent areas are aged 50 and older. Some were diagnosed later in life, while others have lived with HIV for many years. Support services are available through health care providers, local community centers, or HIV service organizations like

Today is National African Immigrant and Refugee HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Awareness Day (NAIRHHA Day). Founded by advocates in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and New York. NAIRHHA Day has been observed annually on September 9th by communities, advocates, healthcare professionals, government officials, and other stakeholders since 2014.

The purpose of NAIRHHA Day is to bring national and local attention to the HIV and viral hepatitis needs of African immigrants living in the U.S. in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. By addressing some of the unique issues that African immigrants in the U.S. face through awareness, education, and resources, NAIRHHA Day helps to eliminate the pervasive stigma surrounding HIV and hepatitis in these communities and empower individuals within these communities to take charge of their health by encouraging screenings, treatment, and hepatitis B vaccination.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) which is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died, acknowledge the grief of family & friends left behind and empower communities to .

This years theme is "One big family, driven by hope," to help us come together as one big family to take action on overdose. The overdose crisis doesn’t just shatter our families, it fractures our communities.

The losses go deeper than one person, one family or one neighborhood. They ripple out into classrooms, workplaces and the spaces we all share. They cross borders between cities, states and nations.

But in a time when people are searching for connection and safety, overdose also reminds us that our lives are deeply intertwined.

We often instinctively protect our own – our children, our parents, our siblings. We believe in second chances for our loved ones but struggle to extend that same compassion to others. But what if we saw each other as one big family, bound not just by blood, but by shared experiences, responsibility and commitment to each other?

This International Overdose Awareness Day let’s imagine a new meaning of what family can be. A family driven by hope, love and action. We are one big family – not just because we share in the pain of loss, but because we share in the power to change what comes next.

This August 31st, we move beyond awareness. We organize, we show up, and we take action. Because no one should carry this grief alone. Every story shared, every voice raised and every step we take brings us closer to a future free from overdose.

Join our family this IOAD.

Today is is National Faith HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NFHAAD). It is a day to engage faith communities to work together for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, care, and support, and to reduce and eliminate stigma and discrimination.

Reaching All HIV+ Muslims in America (RAHMA) and its partners have led the events of this awareness day across the nation, reaching thousands of people of various faiths across the United States to take a stand against stigma in their congregations to help raise awareness about HIV. RAHMA and its partners lead the planning for and RAHMA held the first NFHAAD observance in 2017.

Faith communities are encouraged to learn about the status of HIV funding in their state, nationally, and internationally, and take action to sustain and increase HIV prevention, treatment, and care services for all who require them. Faith communities fighting for freedom and fairness together can end HIV-related stigma and discrimination—one day, each year, until there is a cure!

July 21st marks Zero HIV Stigma Day, spearheading a movement and uniting people, communities, organizations, and entire countries to raise awareness and take action against HIV stigma, which reinforces and amplifies the HIV pandemic and related inequalities. This year's theme is "Beyond Labels: Redefining HIV Narratives." While occasions such as World AIDS Day bring needed awareness to HIV in general, there has never been a global awareness day specifically to challenge the impact of stigma, which persists despite biomedical advancements in HIV prevention and care.
