Kidney for Michael

Kidney for Michael Dear Friends,
Some of you know me from Bowersock Gallery here in Provincetown that my husband Steve and I own. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

But what some of you may not know is that I have kidney disease. I'm hoping you can help me and many others in donating the life of a kidney. Dear Friends,
Some of you now me from Bowersock Gallery here in Provincetown that my husband Steve and I own. Unfortunately, over time my kidney disease has gotten worse causing my kidneys not to work well enough to keep me alive. This is what I am facing now, and my treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant. I have to do dialysis treatments four times a day. This helps my kidneys do their job and keeps me alive, but a transplant would give me back a normal life. A living kidney donation typically lasts longer and has better function. You might not know a lot about living donation - I know I didn’t before kidney disease affected my life. Understandably, some people are afraid about the surgery and what living with one kidney will mean for them. Here’s some basic information about kidney donation:
• You only need one kidney to live a healthy, long life.
• Most donor surgery is done laparoscopically, meaning through tiny incisions.
• The recuperation period is usually fairly quick, generally two weeks.
• The cost of your evaluation and surgery will be covered by my insurance.
• You will have a separate team of healthcare professionals to evaluate you as a living donor. Their job is to help you understand the risks and benefits and look out for YOUR best interests. You can also learn more about living donation on the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) website: www.kidney.org/livingdonation

THE BIG ASK:THE BIG GIVE - Start a conversation about living organ donation
www.kidney.org
or by contacting the NKF’s free, confidential helpline at 855.NKF.CARES (855.653.2273) or nkfcares@kidney.org. If you want to talk to someone who’s already donated a kidney, NKF can also help. If donating a kidney to me is something you would like to consider and are B+ please consider helping me take my life back. I would be happy to tell you more about my story and explore the process of determining if you are a match for me. You can also contact my transplant center directly at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. 617-632-9700, bidmc.org/kidneydonor
I know a living donation may not be right for everyone but you can still help by being an organ donor after death. I am hopeful my efforts will help me receive a kidney sooner and encourage others to consider helping the many people on the waitlist. Thank you,
Mike Senger

Hi all, it’s been a bit. Mike’s been going through alot with his ailments along with his Kidney Disease that’s still hard to process so he’s been pretty quiet. But he could now use more prayers. Mike would like to pass along an update, which he’s been reluctant to do so. He’s back in the hospital after having his left big toe removed a month ago and now unfortunately his left two other toes are infected from the diabetes as well. The doc has to remove all his toes, on his left foot, to stop the spread of infection. Please send him love, light and prayers! His surgery is this Thursday.

Kidney disease is no joke, get your kidneys and diabetes checked often. You can stop it, in its tracks through diet, exercise, along with proper treatment before your needing a kidney, which is a whole other issue.

Mike would like to share, kidney disease is no joke. He’s thinking of everyone in similar situations and wants you to know your not alone. Reach out for help if you need it. With the gracious help from friends and family he was able to get both eyes into treatment with a bit extra to help maintain his home care and other treatment care. So thank you to those who has helped him!

His latest update he’s been accepted on the Florida transplant list and is able to have back surgery to help with his nerve damage. He’s currently in the hospital for back surgery so he could use your help with positive energy and prayers. So thank you! More links and info to come soon.

Update and a big thank you to everyone who helped donate to Mike's go fundme for his eyes! Mike is having his second eye surgery today to have the next lens put in; this is the most difficult eye. Also, Mike's mom fell yesterday and is in the hospital, so I am sure he has a lot on his mind today. I'm asking you to send him prayers and well wishes to get him through all this. Mike and I couldn't have done this without you all. With much gratitude, Steve

Mike wanted me to thank you all very very much for your kindness and generosity! You helped him get the first round of surgeries started, which is May 11th. Cataracts and the first lens will be put in his right eye, but the left eye is a bit more complicated and will take more time. But both mike and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will take down the https://gofund.me/e2aa14c0 Sunday. He’s got more to go for his health but you gave him happiness in his eyes. He is still in need of a kidney, which he meets Friday with his Florida transplant team to start his rounds of tests there. Please send him prayers and light that he can be listed in MA and FL.

The one tip I can pass along as I go through this journey with kidney disease and on dialysis. Take your diabetes seriously and have your kidneys checked early. Pay attention to your diet, that is extremely important.

Wishing everyone all the best.

I’m still learning to eat healthy so I thought I would share. We all think we eat right until you learn, through a disease, that none of us eat the way we should.
