Huge shoutout to our very own Dereck for his outstanding presentation at the Generations Conference earlier this week! Dereck led a DBT training session for over 80 attendees and his engaging, educational, and humorous approach kept everyone hooked!

It’s not easy to keep a crowd attentive, especially in those sleepy afternoon conference slots, but he managed to do just that.

Thank you for embodying the impactful work we do at SCS for adolescents and families. Your dedication not only enhances community skills but also contributes to better care across the community!

The last (but certainly not least!) of our three full-time primary therapists is Tanner Melior, MS, ACMHP.

Tanner graduated with his Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Utah Valley University. His long-term goals include achieving a doctorate in counseling education and inspiring other exceptional therapists to enter the field. When away from work, Tanner can be found outside hiking, camping, boating, traveling, or playing sports. He enjoys watching movies, visiting national and state parks, playing games, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Tanner loves working at Summit Counseling Solutions. While studying as an undergraduate student, he spent a significant amount of time working in Summit Counseling Solutions’ intensive outpatient program. He quickly fell in love with the work, his colleagues, and the program and returned to the clinic as soon as he could. He is very passionate about helping and caring for the youth that enroll in this program and finds his work here to be fulfilling and enlightening. He reports, “Summit Counseling Solutions is truly the best place to experience a safe learning environment where clients can feel accepted and supported in their journey through personal challenges.” Tanner hopes that everyone who decides to enroll in this program knows that he will do his absolute best to ensure that they feel safe and secure, and that this is a place for real growth and progress.

Next in our lineup of full-time clinicians is one of our primary therapists, Dereck Gonzalez, CSW.

While originally born here in Utah, Dereck considers his home to be where he grew up in Las Vegas, NV. Dereck is a graduate of Utah Valley University where he obtained his Master of Social Work. During his studies, he spent time working with adolescents as a school social worker and support staff at an adolescent residential treatment center. Most recently, Dereck worked as a therapist within a coordinated specialty care team dedicated to intervening with adolescents and young adults experiencing early onset psychosis. He remains committed to learning and honing his craft to better serve clients and their families.

Dereck’s passion for helping youth makes it deeply important to him to help facilitate healing, build resilience, and guide adolescents through what is already a tumultuous time in their lives. He believes that enhancing one’s interpersonal relationships and self-regulation are key pieces that go above managing mental health issues and set one up for success in life! To Dereck, SCS is a place that he has come to recognize as an immensely powerful program. Such an organization provides various resources beyond individual therapy and so he enters determined to mobilize the support offered to his clients and their families.

When Dereck is not in “therapy mode”, he enjoys being an uncle to the best niece in the world (…and some nephews that are alright). He loves to go camping, off-roading, and playing tabletop games with friends. Every now and then, he has just enough time to play Apex Legends with his older brother who lives on the other side of the country to stay connected (…he mains Bloodhound, but he’s not very good though).
