Have you ever wondered what you would say if you had the opportunity to go back in time and speak to the younger YOU?

What words would bring you the most comfort, peace, motivation, and courage?

Sometimes we are pretty hard on ourselves. We are much harder ourselves than we are on others! We say some pretty terrible things in our heads, but will often forgive others in a heartbeat

It might help if you think of yourself as that young child because- guess what?! That young child is still very much a part of YOU.

Everything that child endured and accomplished made you who you are today.

What words would you say to yourself to provide some hope and encouragement along life’s journey?

I know I would say to the younger me (pictured below):

Be YOU.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and disappoint others (you’re going to!)
Take a deep breathe and have some courage. 💪 You’ll get through this even though some days it feels like you won’t.
Know that you’re always loved, wanted, and cherished. 🥰

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

Know your spouse or partner’s love language!!

One of the most common problems I see in couples therapy is that one or both partners feel unloved and unwanted because they are not speaking each other’s love languages.

Fascinating article about s*xual arousal templates!

According to Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., author of Facing the Shadow: Starting S*xual and Relationship Recovery, an arousal template consists of "the total constellation of thoughts, images, behaviors, sounds, smells, sights, fantasies, and objects that arouse us s*xually."

An arousal template consists of all that arouses us s*xually.

Real, lasting change occurs when the pain of the problem (whether that is addiction, an unhealthy or abusive relationship, anxiety, unresolved trauma) becomes greater or more intense than the pain of the solution (changing behavioral patterns or relationships).

In other words, people often do not decide to change until they have hit rock bottom or experienced loss in some sort of way. This is especially true for addiction.

The hook up culture is dramatically changing the dating scene. Now, young adults and single adults are not really even dating, and out of fear of real emotional connection, they have lost the ability and desire to move through the proper stages of courtship.

This disordered courtship process comes with all kinds of problems such as stds, unwanted pregnancy but most importantly emotional injury (depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, breakdown of self esteem, etc.) due to feeling used, being ghosted, or being objectified in these encounters.

“Hooking up is nothing more than settling; it is the microwaveable burrito of s*x.” -Shannon T. Boodram

Thoughts are welcome as to how this culture has affected your life or just the dating scene in general!

If you think that s*xual addiction is just a man’s issue, think again!!

Fact: At least 1/3 of all s*x addicts are women.

The problem is, this statistic is likely very skewed because women are much less likely to come forward and get help due to deep- rooted shame and stigma of women who engage in compulsive s*xual behaviors.

Women are expected to be the guardians of morality and virtue whereas men are seen as more macho the more women there are that desire them s*xually.

One major difference between male and female s*x addicts is that men are more likely to engage in compulsive s*xual behaviors due to intimacy and bonding issues, competition, and autonomy. For women, it is more likely relating to their desire for power, control, or attention.

See below this article of one woman’s story of recovery from s*xual addiction.

We spoke to Erica Garza about her recovery, and how s*x addiction isn't about enjoying s*x too much, but being unable to separate pleasure and shame.

If you are a woman dealing with low libido, it might be time to check out your hormone levels!!

Low progesterone or imbalance with other hormones (estrogen, testosterone) is one of the most common physiological causes of low libido in women.
