One of my goals as a licensed massage therapist is to work with the muscular and fascia system in a way that works for you, whether that means getting aggressive or gently working until your body is ready to release old patterns of tension, pain, and/or trauma.
I’m trained in several different modalities which address the body structures as well as the emotions held in the body. I use my intuition to help you get the treatment your body and soul need so you can release what’s stuck and live your best life.

Fascia is the connective tissue that runs through every fiber of your body giving strength, glide, and structure to your organs, muscles, fat, etc. It connects your skin to your fat and your fat to your muscles. It keeps your organs in the right place and gliding so they can perform their functions properly. Fascia is slippery, sticky, strong, and innervated. It stores information from our traumas not only as scar tissue but actual emotional information.

Fascia is one of the most fascinating and important structures in our bodies and we are only just starting to learn about all that it does for us.

The fact that massage therapy isn’t typically covered by insurance and how frustrating that is considering the benefits comes up often in my office.

However! Did you know you can use your HSA card next time you get a massage?

You’ll need a doctor’s note or letter of medical necessity, so check with your doc and see if your chronic pain or recovering injury (etc) might indicate massage therapy!

I get this question often.
And the answer is nuanced because bodies are unique and the issues you’re addressing are all different.

Some people come in once a week. Others just a few times a year. Different goals and bodies mean different timing for each person.

However, if you’re dealing with a problem you want fixed, especially if it’s recently developed you can knock it out much faster by consistently getting massages closer together. Once a week is great but you could even come in multiple times per week. If we are working you to the point of being sore or tender to the touch (usually from deep tissue or cupping) however often you choose to come in, it’s wise to wait until you are no longer sore to come back for another round.

I’ve given some general rules of thumb you can follow based on my observations from giving and receiving massage for the past nine years in this post. That can give you an idea of what to expect until you become more familiar with your body and its needs.

Do you know how to stimulate the vagus nerve?

This is great to be aware of because not only do you have some techniques in your pocket for those times when you can’t sleep, stress is getting to you, or you need to let go when you’re getting your massage, but it’s a fool proof way to get your body back to a more regulated state.
And it’s backed by science. 🤓

Have you tried any of these techniques?

Update! I am a Certified Meditation Teacher! 🧘‍♀️

What does this mean for me, you, and this account?
I’m still allowing some flow as far as exactly how I want to show up with this, but a shift to more mindfulness and stress management content here is in order. I may start doing live meditations on this account as well.
As far as the real world, I have led corporate and group stress management/meditation/massage classes and would love more opportunities there.

I’ve written and have been leading meditations here and there for years. We’ll see exactly where this takes me, but for now we’ll practice being more zen and open a little more into the “wellness” side of Sakalya Massage & Wellness.

Contact me with any questions about what I can offer you or your team. While massage is still my main jam, I’m happy to discuss custom classes or healing meditations.

Thanks for being here! More updates and changes to come!

If you’re looking for the most value when it comes to some deep structural work and both of these modalities sound appealing this might be a great combo to try. Here’s why:

If you’ve been following along since the beginning you know “our muscles are like butter”. Much more malleable when warm.

Hot stone is a great way to warm up the muscle tissue quickly. It helps us relax and gets blood flow to the area.

Cupping therapy pulls the muscle and connective tissue up and allows them to release.

Deep structural work is much more effective and enjoyable when the tissue is warm. It’s also a bit of a two-for-one since the cups do their thing while massage is being done on another area. The heat combined with the cupping means faster, deeper and just More work being done during your massage.

Feeling grounded in your body is important because it settles the nervous system, aids with anxiety management, boosts the immune system, and when done outside gives your body the negative ions it needs to function optimally.

I’ve listed some easy ways to get grounded above.
Which technique works the best for you?

PS. If you want to stay connected to the earth while you hike, run, walk, or trudge through water, grounding sandals are so amazing! I am in love with my earth runners. I love them so much I asked for a 10% off code. So if you want to check them out use EarthKris10 at checkout to get a little discount.
