Navigating Insurance

Are you a newcomer or has your insurance changed?

To help avoid frustrating billing issues, always check with your insurance to ensure I am a covered provider in your network and you know what is covered by your plan.

Tips-
* because I have worked at a few other locations, check to make sure the address where you are seeing me is the one covered on your plan.
*other providers in our clinic may be listed, but if I am not, and you see me, you likely will receive a bill.
*many insurances cover certain "preventative healthcare". Know what is covered by yours
*preventative exams such as well women visits do not typically cover "new problems" (more info coming in future post!)

Thanks for helping me make your healthcare experience a positive one!

I worked at Orem Community Hospital for almost 15 years before becoming a PA and I always encourage anyone I know seeking an amazing delivery experience to checkout the OBGYN's and CNM's who deliver here. Great Job OCH😊

The state health program recognizes Utah hospitals that have taken steps to promote, protect, educate, and encourage breastfeeding in their facilities and presented both hospitals with a plaque. Earning a five-star rating typically takes years.

The ten steps of the Stepping Up for Utah Babies program are evidence-based maternity care practices that demonstrate optimal support of breastfeeding, as well as improved care experiences and outcomes for non-breastfeeding moms and families.

Our nurses teach new moms about the importance of holding their baby skin to skin right after delivery to promote bonding, as well as the benefits of breastfeeding. Board certified lactation consultants are available in the hospital daily to support new moms. After mom and baby go home, they can receive continued support through our onsite lactation clinic,” noted Jody Stevenson, Intermountain Orem Community Hospital nurse manager for inpatient services.

The various hospital nurse managers are all able to share best practices with each other and implement ideas to help increase breastfeeding support for new moms.

They include hospital practices such as: encouraging moms to hold their new baby skin-to-skin right after delivery; allowing moms and babies to remain together 24 hours-a-day in the hospital; training staff to support all new moms’ feeding choices; encouraging breastfeeding on demand; reducing formula supplementation unless medically indicated; and not using pacifiers for breastfeeding infants.

The state health program website cites research that shows breast milk is the best food for infants and that breastfed infants are associated with decreased risk for infant morbidity and mortality. It’s also been shown that breastfeeding moms have lower incidences of breast and ovarian cancer, Type 2 diabetes and postpartum depression.

A little bit of information regarding the J&J vaccine....

The first shots of the third authorized Covid-19 vaccine could be administered as soon as today, after Johnson & Johnson got the final seal of approval for its vaccine over the weekend.

On January 8th, Intermountain Healthcare is opening up COVID-19 tests at select Intermountain facilities across the state to anyone interested in supporting a multi-state testing event. The goal is to test up to 8,000 people in one day – and that means anyone at least 18 years old and has a smart phone is welcome.

The test will be a self-administered nasal swab, and through rapid testing, results will be known Saturday, January 9th. The test is free for everyone.

Round 1 done! A little tenderness at injection site...but I have not grown a third arm yet πŸ™ƒ In all seriousness though, I am glad to have the opportunity to get this as soon as I could.

I have seen first hand some of the after effects of the virus on people-including severe fatigue, lung and heart issues, and random other issues. I have also seen the efficacy of vaccine safety over the years and have a decent trust in the technology that has proven time after time to prevent serious illness and disease in the majority of the population.

Let's weigh the odds... We have a vaccine created from new technology in a controlled environment with enough preliminary studies to show that is effective and safe in most of the population. We may not know all of the unknowns or adverse effects, but we know enough that it can be a powerful tool to help us return back to normalcy and prevent major long term health effects and related medical costs to our system.

On the other side- we have a new virus that is rapantly spreading in an uncontrolled environment, causing multiple short term issues and no great guess on the longterm issues if you contract it. Just because one may have a mild case now does not "save" them from the unknown long term effects. And now they are finding variant strains of the virus that could be stronger and more damaging-all is completely unknown.

I know the vaccine is not right for everyone, but if you are considering getting the vaccine now versus waiting-please consider the above. Please look at accurate information, not random blogs or uninformed sources. Please consider your personal situation and your health concerns because the vaccine is not right for everyone. But if you are able to get it and are having a fear due to the newness of the vaccine- please consider the newness of the virus we are fighting and the damages it is causing to our society-not just in the physical health aspect-but the social, mental, financial, economical and other health effects that are being affected by this virus. I will list some reliable links in the comments. Goodbye COVID!

I get asked on my perspective of wearing masks all the time. This is it. As a provider I am around so many people everyday. Even though they may seem healthy-I have no idea who they have come into contact with in their circle of family/friends and if they have been exposed. I wear my mask to not only protect me and those in my circle....but to also protect you and those in your circle. Are masks effective? Well-I would rather not conduct my own personal experiment and find out otherwise. Be safe, not sorry. Wear the mask.
