Pharmacists that own pharmacies saw this coming. Pharmacies will continue to close if Pharmacy Benefit Managers continue to offer contracts to drugstore owners that are not profitable. I have had to turn down several contracts over the past few years because there is just no way to make a profit and the terms on many of them would have us losing money on the majority of prescriptions that we fill. In my 30 years of practicing pharmacy, the last several years have been the most challenging financially.

Walgreens is closing 1,200 stores. CVS is closing 900. Rite-Aid is closing 500. What is going on with America’s drug stores?
