Congratulations to Jacalyn for earning her fifth Award for Continuing Education (ACE) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)!

The ACE is a formal recognition of professionals who have demonstrated their commitment to lifelong learning.

A few notable trainings Jacalyn received during this period was Stroboscopy and FEES at CU Anschutz and MDTP re-certification as well as presenting as an expert panelist.

We pride ourselves on staying current and educated to provide the best evidence based care to our community. 💜

The American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention in Washington DC was an amazing opportunity to not only share with our nation’s speech-language pathologists what we are doing here in Pueblo, but to learn the latest research and techniques to bring back to our community. Jacalyn was honored to present on group therapy. She also gained many resources and learned updated techniques to share with the clinicians here at Pueblo Speech and Neuro. We believe continuing education and evidence based practice is critical to providing the best care for our patients and community.

Today is World Stroke Day. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, causing brain cells to die.

Recognize signs of stroke and remember to BE FAST:
B - Balance
Is the person suddenly having trouble with balance or coordination?
E - Eyes
Is the person experiencing suddenly blurred or double vision or a sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes without pain?
F - Face Drooping
Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile.
A- Arm Weakness
Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S - Speech Difficulty
Is speech slurred, are they unable to speak, or are they hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence like, “The sky is blue.” Is the sentence repeated correctly?
T - Time to call 911
If the person shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 911 and get them to the hospital immediately
