That’s the reality in post–"One Big Beautiful Bill" America.

With nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, 100,000–200,000 pregnant and postpartum people are projected to lose vital coverage. Services like lactation support, home visits, mental health care, and even postpartum blood pressure checks could vanish.

🔻 42% of U.S. births are covered by Medicaid
🔻 Medicaid is the largest payer for postpartum mental health care
🔻 PMADs (like postpartum depression) are a leading cause of maternal death
🔻 Rural hospitals and clinics are already closing
🔻 Maternity care deserts are expanding

People are being forced to give birth without access to care. Midwifery care, birth centers, and community-rooted providers are left scrambling to fill widening gaps. This is not just bad policy—it’s preventable harm.

We must fight for Medicaid. We must fight for maternal health. We must center midwives in the solution.
