Step #1: Awareness via food journal
Step #2: Understanding
- Ask yourself these questions while eating:
- Am I actually hungry?
- What’s my hunger level?
- What emotion am I feeling?
- Why do I actually want to eat this?
- What’s going on in my environment that’s contributing?
- Ask yourself these questions after eating:
- What is my hunger/fullness level?
- What emotion am I feeling?
- How did that food actually taste? Be specific!
- Was it worth it eating that food?
Step #3: Change
- Are you actually hungry?
- Work on better meal proportions, better meal content, better meal timing
- Are you buffering emotions?
- Learn to feel the emotion instead of buffering it
- Is it your environment?
- Plan ahead and distract yourself
