When there is a lack of vision, problem and a lack of /progress results. The late Charlie and Lee Gallant were friends to me. Braid Gallant was and is a gifted Embalmer licensed in Tenn/Al/and GA. Bard's father stated to me, "William one of the best things that I ever did was to put a facility in at Hazel Green, AL. In later years, that facility was possible purchased by the operators of Spry Funeral Home. With Billy McCaulley's son expressing not to take the helm of McCaulley Funeral Home, it was sold with the accounts being possible bought by Gallant Funeral Home.
(FIeldhouse Funeral Home in Shelbyville TN sold their land to Publix while their accounts were purchased Doak/Howell Funeral HOme, Shelbyville, TN.
VISIONARY= One thing that GOD made that man can not make any more of is land! Prior to Braid Gallant working to have a piece of Market Street Property rezoned to accommodate a retort and a walk-in cooler to keep from outsourcing the popular form of the disposition of human remains using cremation. Through the years Braid Gallant acquired other properties properly zoned.
I'm not clear on how one would figure that the cost of cremation would decrease.
In Giles County Tennessee, we have five funeral establishments. One offers an on site crematory. Another firm is owned and operated by SCI, Houston, TX and their prices for cremation are probably higher than the other 3 firms. Why7? They say overhead. I have had competitors refer families to me because they did not have the finances to pay the fee that they were being charged!
Once there was Howard Funeral Home and Sledge Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN. I was asked once by a friend at the time, "William, what are Howard and Sledge going to do when we start handling services for blacks?" My response then was, "Really it does not concern me because my dog is not in that race!"
In my hometown, funeral establishments dug a hole for themselves by not not reinvesting in their businesses. My people get hung up on buildings instead of clinging to our places of worship! My mother owned operated a grocery store. Daddy told me, "Mr. Charlie's ice is colder than Smith Grocery's ice but it comes from the same ice plant. Mr. Cothran's Coca-Cola tasted better that Smith Cash Groceries Cocola yet, the same bottling company and its delivery truck delivered the products on the same day. Mr. Noland'['s coal oil burned better that Smith's cash grocery store's coal oil; however, the same tanker truck delivered the fuel.
In 1958, Doris Lovett built Lovett's Supermarket within four blocks of 5 neighborhood grocery stores and my parents sold Smith cash grocery.
Lastly, I have a first cousin who is very good at -playing checkers. Sit down at the table with hime, make the first move aand no matter how hard you try you'll lose!!
When I opened The Rose of Sharon Funeral Service in Pulaski, TN, Mrs. Lee Gallant and her son Brad were there! When I was out on a service and had a home removal death call and needed that person prepared, Brad Gallant was there for me! When all of the funeral home vehicles were in operable because of the frigid temperatures. Mr. Charlie Gallant said to me, "Wiliam, If I can get my hearse started you can use it. Do not put any gas in it. When I took the hearse back. I told my Gallant that I filled the hearse back up. He told me, "William, I said for you not to put gas in that hearse because we are supposed to help one another!"
The Crematory will be built! What Barad is about to do, my Black associate has already done! A Fine funeral coach, I have access to the same year, a Rolls Royce Version along with matching Limo and for those Harley Davidson Lover, I have access to that too! When you see these luxury items, it means that the families have paid big bucks!
#1 Approval to change the property zoning from R3 (residential) to C3 (General Commercial) on Market Street to build a crematorium.
THE MOTION WAS NOT APPROVED.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
· The business owner has other property on Market St. that is zoned commercial.
· They plan to build the crematory on one of the commercial lots and do not need any further approvals.
· Since this is a local funeral business, the costs of cremations should go down

In the words of Carolyn Dawson Bumpas, we were able to wiggle ourselves into the recreation center, find a seat, sing the Alma Mater. reflect on the memories of those who were absent from the body and present with the Lord, get in line (Some broke Line) told the servers what you could eat, returned to your seat, chit chatted, took phots, and played Bingo.

Some of my class mated I failed to recognize because of your not aging like cousin Otis and me. I forgot to get "Punpkin" to take a photo of Cousin/Sister Gloria Ann Smith Burkeen Duke and I.

My Brother Robert Hackney, I didn't know that those fine shirts were freebies! I would have stole at least 6 ###.'s. The lemonade was potent, gave me a buss which would not allow me to break by curfew and go down near Mt Calvary M B Church to let it be known that I can't event slow dance or walk in shoes on the ground!

The truth is really, because of the excitement of being with my friends, and loved ones and remembering the seat occupied in the past that are now vacant. It was necessary for me to rest, sleep and think about the goodness of The Lord. I was able to walk up the ramp, open the church's door, speak to the pastor, go to the keyboard and sing unto the Lord A New Song because of HIS marvelous works!
