Resident Spotlight!
Last year, during Nursing Home Week, our theme was “Tapestry of Life.” What started as a simple activity—decorating small fabric squares—quickly became something much more meaningful. Residents, patients, and staff each took time to create a square that represented who they are—what brings them joy, their memories, their personalities. In those moments, you could feel a sense of comfort growing throughout the building… laughter, conversation, and connection filling the room as everyone worked side by side. During that time, one of our residents, Judy Fugate, shared a piece of her story. She told us she learned how to sew as a young child, and as she grew older, she lovingly made clothes for her children. It was not just a skill—it was a part of who she is.
Wanting to honor that, our Activities Director, Julie, got with Judy and asked if she would piece together every square into one tapestry. You could see something spark in her—a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
With steady hands and a full heart, Judy began stitching each square together. Every thread connected a story, a memory, a person. In those quiet moments,
she was not just sewing fabric—she was creating something meaningful again, something that brought a deep sense of fulfillment not only to her, but to
everyone watching her bring it to life. And through it all, we were reminded what it truly means to honor someone’s life—not by speaking for them, but by
seeing them, by listening to their story… and by trusting them to continue writing it. Because dignity is not just respect—it is recognizing that Judy is not
defined by where she is today, but by the life she has lived, the love she has given, and the talents she still carries. It is giving her the opportunity to be who
she has always been.
Recently, Judy finished the tapestry, we had the honor of hanging it in our building. Today it hangs proudly for all to see. Families and new residents often
stop in front of it, taking in its beauty—but what they are really seeing is something deeper.
They are seeing comfort.
They are feeling hope.
They are witnessing fulfillment.
And they are experiencing dignity.
Because this tapestry is not just fabric—it is every life, every story, and every heart that makes Pulaski Health & Rehabilitation Center a family.
