Today is a very special birthday!
The Nest turns 10 years old - double digits!
For our 10th year, we want to do something special to celebrate each month and share our story.

Kristine was the first client to entrust us with her care! What a brave woman. ;) I stopped by to thank her and celebrate! Since this day 10 years ago, we have been a part of over a thousand childbearing journeys. I stand in awe looking at all that has unfolded from the initial intention to bring midwifery care to Pullman and serve families on the Palouse! I thought I would be a solo midwife with a small home based practice (insert laughter). Instead I get to spend my days with the most amazing team ever and be a part of so many lives! Thank you all for being a part of The Nest Story! We love what we do and we love our community!

The full moon on the way to the 6th labor in the past 3 days! In full appreciation of our midwife team! Sometimes babies all feel compelled to join us on the outside at the same time! Beautiful moon for so many beautiful births❤️

After a 48-hr early labor, first time mama pushed this little one out in a half an hour!! The patience, fortitude and power of women is incredible.

This fiesty little girl has been giving the midwives the side eye since birth and we love it. 😁

Hello, friends! My name is Kelly Painter and I am the new Operations Manager for The Nest. I will be working on the admin side of things alongside our beloved Office Manager, Megan. 

Both of my children are Nest babies. I knew from my very first consultation with Dr. KO that this was a community I wanted to be a part of. I love birth, motherhood, and the incredible power of women. I’m so grateful that we have quality midwifery care here on the Palouse and I’m very excited to do my part to contribute to that. ♥️

“WHOAAAA that was so COOL!!”
A recent quote from a mama I had to transfer to Whitman Medical. This quote came after she was able to have an unmedicated birth despite needing to be transferred.

On the long drive to the hospital, her labor really kicked in. She wasn’t even fully admitted when I heard her say she wants me to check her because she’s pushing.

I walked in the room to find her on the floor on hands and knees. She tells me she can’t move and can’t stop pushing.

So, I sat on the floor behind her (in my sweats, i had no time to change) and prepared to catch this baby. Our nurses, phenomenal as always, have learned to just ride the wave with me. No panic, no fuss. No time for IV and monitors. Just support, patience and trust.

Baby boy was born shortly thereafter. And mama loudly pronounces “WHOAAA that was so COOL” 😁 She was beyond giddy, could not believe she got her unmedicated birth….on the floor… in the hospital hahaha.

The next best quote of that night came from one of those phenomenal nurses. Saying “I just had my first home birth in the hospital!”

A couple of take aways. It is possible to have a calm, supportive birth in the hospital when you have staff willing to trust the process, and listen to women.

We are so fortunate to have the relationship we have with Whitman.

Transfers don’t always go as quickly or labors as smoothly, but this is not the first time our nurses and docs at Whitman have redeemed hospital births for our patients when plans have to change.

This baby born weighed in at 9lbs 11oz!!!

Trust, hold space and honor the process. I love my job.
