Berenice Lynn Murray

Berenice Lynn (Johnson) Murray 77, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at her home on November 14, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Berenice was the beloved wife of Robert Murray for 58 years. Together they shared three children — Lea Masisak (Mike), Jennifer Christenson (Keith), and Jason Murray (Liz); six grandchildren — Sophia Yeung (Chris), Andrew Yeung (Dani), Jacob Gotwald (Cara), Connor Christenson, Logan Murray, and Carissa Murray; and two great-grandchildren — Rosemary Schubert and Damon Gotwald.

Berenice treasured literature, language, and learning, and her life’s work was to share those gifts with her children, grandchildren, and students. She was generous with her time and knowledge, volunteering to teach adult learners through the local Community Action literacy program and tutoring students in writing and college test preparation. She earned both her undergraduate degree and Master’s in TESOL from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Faith was an important part of Berenice’s life, and she attended Solid Rock Church in Big Run, PA.

Berenice had a curious and creative spirit. She loved reading, writing, playing the piano, singing, exploring other cultures, baking, embroidering, and sewing — and she passed these passions on to her family. She enjoyed day trips, card games, and birdwatching with her husband, and could never pass up a Hershey’s Kiss.

Berenice is survived by her sisters Marlene Getch and Lauren Burgess and her brothers Bud Johnson and John Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lela Johnson; her sisters Lela Johnson, Anna McKee, Kathryn Smelko, Carol Doan, Barbara Johnson, and Darlene Johnson; her brother Ed Johnson; and her great-granddaughter Juniper Schubert.

To her family, Berenice was the heart of the home — a source of wisdom, comfort, color, and love whose spirit will be cherished always.

Friends will be received on Monday from 3-7 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at McCabe Funeral Home, Inc. 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767 with Pastor Joel Fugate officiating.

Interment will take place at Circle Hill Cemetery.

Donald R. Sherry

Donald R. Sherry, 91, of Juneau, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1934, in Juneau, PA, the son of Harry Edward “Ed” and Hazel Elizabeth (McDowell) Sherry.

Don graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1952, where he played football and played the trombone in the marching band. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Fort Bragg, NC. On April 2, 1966, he married the love of his life, Kay Johnson. Together, they built a life of love and dedication that endured throughout and was evident to all through her gentle care and devotion until he went home to his Lord. He worked in the coal and steel industries before landing on the railroad as a fireman oiler. For over 40 years, he made an array of friends, fully embraced his role, and became a proud railroad enthusiast. He retired in 1994 to settle into his last venture as a full-time husband, father, and, his most cherished role, as “Gran Paw”.

Don is survived by his treasured wife, Kay; his children: Darren (Susan) Sherry, Aurora, OH; Ken (Karin) Sherry, Cicero, NY; and Mary Kay Sherry, Punxsutawney. He is also survived by his pride and joy, and the lights of his life, his granddaughters, Alyssa and Jenna Sherry, both of Cicero, NY. He is also survived by his brother Tom Sherry of Pittsburgh, and his brother-in-law Robert Johnson of Punxsutawney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harry and Jim Sherry, and his sister, Patricia Rowland.

As a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, Don served his Lord and community with the utmost care, kindness, and sincerity. Some of his happiest moments were spent singing in the Valley Chapel Choir. He was a dedicated fan of the Punxsy Chucks, attending football and basketball games, long after his children graduated because he believed in supporting his community. In addition, he was an avid fan of the Steelers and, especially, his Pitt Panthers. Some of his favorite memories were taking his sons to Pitt Stadium, meeting up with his brother and nephews, and watching his Panthers win. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his yard and flowers, and his occasional golf outings with his sons. Most of all, he loved his family and telling anyone in earshot about his granddaughters. Don will always be remembered for his genuine smile, unwavering kindness to all, and tremendous ability to make all feel noticed and important to him. His family would like to thank his doctors, nurses, and caregivers for their wonderful support over the years.

Friends will be received from 1-3 pm and from 5-7 pm on Friday at McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA. Friends will also be received beginning at 10 am Saturday until the time of service at 11 am at Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, Juneau, PA with Rev. Janet Chiplis and Carl White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to local food pantry or a charity of your choice.

Mark P. Deyarmin

Mark Patrick Deyarmin, 63, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025 peacefully at his home in Glen Campbell Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family and his faithful companion, his dog Taco.

He was born March 17, 1962 in Spangler, Pennsylvania to Arthur and Viola (Roush) Deyarmin.

Mark was a proud St. Patrick’s Day baby who embraced his Irish heritage with a smile. For over 30 years, Mark was proud to be a truck driver, a career that suited his love for the open road. Mark was, above all, kind, generous, and caring. He was passionate about his family and truly came alive when spending time with them. He loved nothing more than riding his Harley-Davidson and traveling with his best friend and soulmate, his wife Angel. Mark also cherished the extended family and friendships he found within the local Amish community. A skilled and dedicated family man, Mark’s love of homemade food was legendary, but his greatest title was Papa. He was an adoring grandfather who loved spending time with his four beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Angel Marie Deyarmin, Glen Campbell, a daughter, Shannon King and husband Cody, Sprankle Mills, a son Jeffrey Deyarmin and wife Tabitha, Rochester Mills, four grandchildren, Emma and Cora King, and Emerson and Oliver Deyarmin, a sister Dot Deyarmin, Rossiter, and several nieces, nephews, sister and brothers-in-laws, a son Rick Deyarmin, Covode, and a daughter Angela Huey, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Charlie White, Dee Deyarmin, two sisters Lori Shields and Nancy Watson.

Friends will be received on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 5:00 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Johnsonburg Amish Schools, 2602 Church Road, Rossiter, PA 15772.

We are always looking for ways to improve your experience with us during the loss of a loved one. We've recently added this beautiful granite bench along the bank for our families and their guests to use to "take a minute" or just to simply sit and reflect while the waters of Mahoning Creek meander by.
