Does your dog or cat scratch more in the spring? You’re not alone—skin allergies are one of the most common problems we treat at Tally Oaks. When pets’ immune systems overreact to everyday things like pollen, dust mites, or certain foods, it can lead to constant itching, red skin, ear infections, and more.
Environmental allergies tend to flare up seasonally, especially in spring, while food allergies can cause year-round symptoms. Pets may lick, chew, or rub themselves, and some even develop digestive issues like vomiting or diarrhea.
Diagnosing allergies starts with a veterinary exam and may include skin/ear checks, food elimination trials, and allergy testing like the Heska ALLERCEPT blood test. Managing allergies usually involves a combination of topical treatments, dietary changes, and special medications like Apoquel, Cytopoint, and Atopica.
For pets with environmental allergies, we can identify triggers with blood tests and create customized immunotherapy—either injections or oral drops—to help retrain your pet’s immune system over time.
This March, we’re offering 20% off allergy testing and 10% off treatments at Tally Oaks. If your pet is itching this season, let’s get them some relief!
