Hall Funeral Home

Hall Funeral Home Founded in 1895, Hall Funeral Home is proud of our tradition. In 1927, Cornwell’s grandson, Aubrey C. After Mrs. Hall, Jr., and Billie Hall Crouch. Mr.

In 1926, Cornwall purchased a larger structure vacated by Bethany United Methodist Church and expanded the business to include a 170 seat chapel, a 40 seat family room, and several viewing rooms. Hall who graduated from Eckels College in Philadelphia, joined his grandfather’s business, precipitating a name change to “Cornwell and Hall Funeral Home.” Five years later, Cornwell died, but the busines

s he started continued on. An October 12, 1932, advertisement in the Loudoun Times Mirror announced Hall’s intent to carry on his grandfather’s good work: “I shall endeavor to render the same sympathetic and dignified service that marked his work in the past.”

In 1949, Hall hired Melvin “Bunny” Allder to help manage the business. Allder’s influence and importance to the business became evident when Hall died unexpectedly in 1953. Hall’s widow, Alice, the mother of three, knew that keeping the business meant becoming a funeral director herself, a feat uncommon to women in the 1950s. From 1956 to 1990, she and Allder ran the business with the help of two different managers. Hall’s death in 1990, Hall Funeral Home passed on to her adult children – Betty Hall Phillips, Aubrey C. From 1990 to 1996, the family relied on Mr. Allder and outside funeral directors to manage the business. On April 1, 1996, Carl Nichols, who married Alice Hall’s granddaughter, Holly Hall, in 1991, became Hall Funeral Home’s manager. He has worked in that capacity for nearly twenty years now while he and Holly raise their two children, Dale and Carrie. In 2004, Hall Funeral Home hired Kimberlee Reed to serve as funeral director alongside Nichols. They are assisted by Aubrey Hall, III as well as several part-time employees. Allder was employed by Hall Funeral Home for 65 years until his passing in 2014.
