A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for areas north and west of Putnam, where 4โ7 inches of snow are possible.
Preparation is key when it comes to severe weather events, especially snowstorms. Simple actions like checking your heating systems, stocking up on essentials, and keeping emergency kits readily available can make a huge difference in an emergency.
In addition, the National Weather Service offered the following safety tips during the winter months:
โข Minimize travel.
โข Stay indoors during the worst part of the extreme cold.
โข Keep a winter survival kit in your if you must travel.
โข Check tire pressure, antifreeze levels, heater/defroster, etc.
โข Learn how to shut off water valves for potential pipe bursts.
โข Check on the elderly and make sure pets are not exposed to the elements.
Residents should also take the following precautions during the winter months:
โข Dress appropriately for cold weather (in layers), and always let someone know your plans if you go outside
โข Make extreme cold weather plans for your home, including a generator backup, winterizing, and safe heating precautions
โข Keep walkways clear of snow and ice to prevent slips and falls and take care not to over-exert when shoveling.
