Is there too much on your mind? Do you find yourself obsessing and recycling the same thoughts and stressors over and over and over again? Ever try journaling?
Most find journaling to be a taxing exercise that turns into a scrapbook of negativity. Instead, make it a structured intervention to purge and release the cycling. Set a timer for 3 minutes and don’t let your pen lift from the paper - write whatever comes to mind in a long, drawn out, and messy sentence. You will find that this allows your mind to process the content through a secondary medium and will alleviate the intensity of distress - kind of like putting it through a filter. My clients know that early in their treatment I love prescribing this form of expressive writing because it really does help!
