Tis the season! And no unfortunately I don’t mean in the “merry” sense. It’s sick season! Time to baton down and prioritize your health because there’s nothing that stress and depression like to feed on more than a deregulated body system.

Make the time to give your body what it needs - get the check up, drink tons of fluids, make sleep the biggest priority, and take care of yourself so that you can have the energy to take care of your mind. ☕️

This rainy day at the end of summer has me craving a seasonal shift. It really can be emotionally cathartic to acknowledge time passing in our lives in the framework of seasons. It can allow us to feel an experience of closure and review before considering what we’d like to take on and accomplish in the next stage. In New England, we’re fortunate to have true seasonal changes to prompt this reflection.

I’m doing everything I can to try and convince my allergies that I love the spring. No doubt it’s beautiful but wow does my system have a hard time adjusting!

Are you being stripped of the life you could have lived if only you could get out of your own way? Some individuals find procrastination to be a debilitating aspect of their life. Aside from the result of being inundated with tasks, it may result in feelings of severe low self-worth and anxiety.

Try to consider what tasks you actively avoid - why do you distance yourself with certain tasks? What is the meaning behind the avoidance? How can you challenge yourself to implement attainable productive steps?

Is there too much on your mind? Do you find yourself obsessing and recycling the same thoughts and stressors over and over and over again? Ever try journaling?

Most find journaling to be a taxing exercise that turns into a scrapbook of negativity. Instead, make it a structured intervention to purge and release the cycling. Set a timer for 3 minutes and don’t let your pen lift from the paper - write whatever comes to mind in a long, drawn out, and messy sentence. You will find that this allows your mind to process the content through a secondary medium and will alleviate the intensity of distress - kind of like putting it through a filter. My clients know that early in their treatment I love prescribing this form of expressive writing because it really does help!
