During treatment, small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Through our Painting with a Purpose program, local artist Christopher Strout of Strout's Custom Acrylics creates custom acrylic paintings that are gifted to one oncology patient each month. Every one-of-a-kind piece is inspired by something that brings the patient comfort, like a beloved pet, a favorite animal, or a beautiful floral scene.

Since July 2025, Christopher has generously donated his time and talent, creating each painting at no cost, simply out of kindness and a desire to give back. His artwork does more than brighten our patients’ walls. It offers comfort and encouragement that they can carry with them beyond their visits.

We are grateful to Christopher for sharing his gift and helping us bring moments of warmth and hope to our oncology patients, one painting at a time.

Our Warmth & Wellness Holiday Drive is still underway, and we are accepting donations of new personal care and cold-weather essentials through Monday, January 12.

Items such as hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and other winter necessities can make a meaningful difference for individuals and families across Northeast Connecticut during the coldest weeks of the year.

Donations may be dropped off at participating DKH locations. We're grateful for the continued generosity of our community and everyone who has already helped support our neighbors in need.

💗 A joyful start to the new year at Day Kimball Hospital 💗

We’re delighted to welcome Northeast Connecticut’s Baby New Year, Genevieve Joan Gieck, born at 8:39 a.m. on Jan. 2. Genevieve weighed 7 lbs., 0 oz. and measured 19.5 inches long at birth.

She is the first child of Sarah and Vincent Gieck of Ashford, and both mom and baby are doing well. To celebrate this special New Year arrival, Genevieve and her family were welcomed with a basket of baby essentials generously gifted by the Woman's Board of Day Kimball Hospital.

We’re honored to begin the year by caring for families during life’s most meaningful moments.

One of our favorite holiday traditions continued last week with a visit from Grace, Anna, and Liv Moore. Each year, the sisters generously donate toys to support our Nurturing Families Network, ensuring that children in our community experience a little extra joy during the holiday season.

Their thoughtfulness and big hearts remind us what the season is truly about. Thank you to the Moore family for continuing to make a difference for families in Northeast Connecticut year after year.
