How do you define "healthy"? Whether weight loss is a goal of yours or not, being healthy includes both your body and mind. I am a psychologist and I focus on helping people have healthy minds. When it comes to weight loss, do not assume a food plan or diet pill will increase your overall health. Have a healthy mind and your body will thank you!

Quick weight loss is not sustainable. True, it is hard on your body chemistry, but it’s even harder on your mind.

“When I went on Ozempic, it made me think I wasn't hungry for so long, I lost some weight…the second I got off I was starving again and my binging got so much worse. So then I kind of blamed Ozempic. I gained double the weight back." https://people.com/health/stars-whove-spoken-about-ozempic-use-and-what-they-said/

Attuning is active listening. Without dismissing, fixing, catering to or medicating the difficult or unpleasant feelings your children experiences, sit in their space and just listen.

One way to change your family’s culture around food is to be on guard for times we medicate our children’s distressing feelings with food. Instead, hug them and listen to their struggles. Research shows a warm parenting style results in outcomes of positive self-esteem and resilience.

Whether you grew up with family meals or not, make it part of your own family tradition now. Sit together without the distraction of technology. Family dinner is a prime setting for asking opinions or involving your children in family decision-making. Ask questions. Even when kids don’t want to answer them, the act of asking about their day helps give them a sense of belonging. All of this helps kids recognize how valued they are and boosts their emotional state. https://childrenswi.org/newshub/stories/why-family-meal-is-important

Benefits of family mealtime can be undermined if the family regularly consumes fast food, watches television during the meal or has a more chaotic atmosphere. Adolescents and children with fewer family meals consume more unhealthy foods. Watching television during dinner or other meals is also a contributing factor to childhood obesity. Psychological reasons for these suggestions include influences in advertising, mindless eating when distracted, poor digestion from stress and using food to regulate emotions, in addition to reducing the family bond when quality conversation is missing.
