"New Moons mark the start of the 29-day lunar cycle. During this time it is positioned between the earth and sun. It cannot be seen in the night sky. The moon is dark, as it is a time for introspection. Meditating on what you want to bring forward during this cycle, as well as letting go of what no longer is in alignment, should be done now."

With the New Moon in emotional Cancer a powerful ritual you may like to create is future self journaling. As beautifully states ❤️ Plants are also excellent allies, and can help us to connect more deeply to intuition. Mugwort and blue lotus are some of our favorites and can be found at The Alchemist's Kitchen.

Visit Anima Mundi's IRL apothecary at 117 Crosby Street for some withcy herbal magick ❤️❤️❤️

Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) is an intriguing berry indeed! Hailing from its home in the lush, mountainous regions of China, we know of its many medicinal merits thanks to a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is an adaptogen and a tonic herb often used to promote longevity and vitality, balance liver conditions, control blood sugar, aid in digestive processes, support the immune system, and help with memory and focus.

A perfect ally for the changing season, Schisandra berry’s Chinese name, wǔ wèi zi, means “five flavor fruit.” It earned this name because it’s the only fruit known to contain all five fundamental tastes—bitter, pungent, salty, sour, and sweet. According to TCM theory, this unique composition supports the 5 zang organs, or the liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, and spleen. This cooperative of zang organs produce and store qi, the vital energy or life force that flows through all living things.

Wild violets are beautiful little plants that are both edible and medicinal. Pansies are also edible. They are in the Violaceae (Violet) Family.
Wild violets are an excellent tonic for helping the body detoxify. They strengthen the immune system and stimulate the lymphatic system. They help the body eliminate waste and toxins in the body. Violets are cooling, moistening and relieve pain. They work as a blood cleanser and are safe for elders and children. Dr. Nicole Apelian uses the flowers and leaves internally as a tea or tincture and externally for skin conditions.

Many of us have endured or at least been exposed to sexual assault, sexual harassment, and/or sexual trauma. At once a taboo subject and an oversaturated trope, we live in a confusing, “sex sells” society that conflates capitalism with sexuality and objectifies bodies, establishing a culture of hectic sexual supremacy. Most articles linking herbal medicine and sexual healing or well-being are aphrodisiac-centric, but our herbal allies can help us in much deeper ways than stimulating our ge****ls with increased peripheral blood flow (the action of many aphrodisiac herbs).

Herbs can work on subtle levels which transcend the mere physical realm to hold us as we process our emotions, heal our hearts, and establish healthy energetic boundaries. Herbal medicine of this sort is best if supported by consistent professional counseling, reflection and self work, and other appropriate therapies, especially if dealing with assault or trauma. When working with herbs energetically, it’s recommended to take very small doses of tincture (1-5 drops 2-5x/day), a few sips of tea (2-5x/day), or a flower essence (as directed on label).
