The mission of the Quantico Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is to promote healthy military family development through the prevention, identification, and treatment of intimate partner violence and child abuse and neglect. The FAP stresses early intervention and education to protect victims and increase family competencies. Prevention and Education:
The FAP uses evidenced based practice protocols in
the establishment and implementation of programming designed for early identification and intervention. Additionally, FAP provides information and education to individuals and families to support strong, self-reliant families and to enhance protective factors. The FAP supports at-risk individuals and families who are vulnerable to the kinds of stressors that can lead to abuse. The program encourages and facilitates self-referral and treatment participation through education and awareness programs. Universal, Selective, and Indicated Prevention services are designed to strengthen positive coping skills and prevent re-occurrence of abuse. Integration of services across Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) and MCCS Behavioral Health is encouraged to meet the multiple needs of families and to assist commands in supporting their service members and families for mission readiness
Clinical Services:
The FAP works with all members of the family to include children and ensures all services are individualized. Services include assessments; individual, couples, families and group counseling; prevention and education classes; support for new parents; trauma informed interventions such as Combat and Operational Stress First Aid education; and 24/7 victim advocacy services. Victim Advocacy:
Victim Advocates provide information, guidance, and support to victims. They are specially trained to respond to incidents of domestic violence 24 hours a day – 7 days a week. Victim Advocates provide emotional support; advise victims of their rights; explore resources and service in both civilian and military communities; and accompany and support victims through medical and legal proceedings. Adult victims of domestic violence have two reporting options: Unrestricted and Restricted. Unrestricted Reporting allows victims to pursue an official investigation of an incident. Restricted Reporting allows adult victims to receive help without requiring notifications to law enforcement or command. There are some limits to restricted reporting which can be explained by the victim advocate. Transitional Compensation:
If you or someone in your family has been abused, Transitional Compensation can help you start a new life. This program provides 12 to 36 months of financial compensation and military ID card benefits and privileges to families of service members separated for domestic violence.
