We celebrated with a summer luau beach party today at the Schuyler County Nursing Home! We listened to tropical and oldies summer music and played beach ball toss with the walking grass skirt game. We had a swimming suit contest and the residents clapped for the one they liked the best. Chris Fowler, in his red speedo, won the contest! We served watermelon, cantaloupe and blueberries along with fresh baked monster pnb m&ms made by Chef Chris, thanks you, they were delish! We served Hawaiian punch in custom tropical fruit punch pouches. Thanks for helping us decorate: Chelle, Shayla, Mary, Taylor and Ms. Lynn! Everything looked great! Thanks to our swimming suit contestants: Mary, Chris, Taylor, Chelle, Jeff and Ethan. The party started at 2:00 pm and went until 4:30 pm! The residents should sleep well tonight!

We had problems downloading all the photos this afternoon. We will try again next week. We have a lot of fun photos to share. Have a nice and safe weekend from the staff and residents at the Schuyler County Nursing Home!

Ms. Darian, CNA at SCNH, brought in loads of beautiful fabric from her Grandma Bonnie who received from a former late resident Ms. Linda Marlowe, thank you all!

The fabric will be put to use by the Sew Much Love Sewing Club/ Patricia Wheeler to make new clothing protectors, thank you so much! They also took Christmas fabric to make other holiday items for the residents here.

Ms. Taryn and Ms. Lynn made some pillow cases and medical supply bags, good job.

Do you know of any other sewing clubs in Schuyler County besides the Sew Much Love that would like to do some sewing projects for the residents?

Another week has blazed by at the Schuyler County Nursing Home.

Last Sunday, the Mike Oberman family flew by and landed their hot air balloon for the residents to see. Thank you, they all were talking about it on Monday!

Ms. Suzi continues to work on her artwork commissioned by our Director, Ms. Becca, to do one piece for each residents room. She is coming along nicely, good job Ms. Suzi.

Ms. Taryn spent all morning Tuesday slicing, breading and frying FRIED GREEN MATERS (picked from our raised garden bed)! She kept them warm in the oven to serve in the afternoon, Boy, were they good, thanks Ms. Taryn! We served some coffee with them at bingo and was spilled on some bingo cards which we hung out to dry. Ms. Bette said she kinda liked this as now she can spot her favorite, lucky bingo cards without searching! No use crying over spilled coffee!

Ms. Becky Jones and her husband brought in flowers both Wednedsay and today which were distributed to all the residents rooms, dining hall and staff desks. Thank you so much! They are so beautiful and brighten up the facility.

We made peanut butter bites with saltine crackers and then got our our left over chopped blizzard toppings and put on them. Ms. Lynn helped me make several (after she ate about ten herself) lol.. to serve at bingo this afternoon. Thanks for getting the staples gathered needed to make these from the kitchen Mr. Chris!

Ms. Rose checked out 30 Mystery and Harlequin Romance books from our Schuyler County Library for Ms. Bette H. and Ms. Carol F. to enjoy. They look like there are some "spicy" ones and they both were excited to get started reading them over the weekend!

Ms. Dorothy R. celebrated a birthday today, Happy birthday Dorothy!

We are going to have a summer beach party on Friday, August 22 under the shelter house! We will have a sprinkler pool, wading pool and cool drinks and snacks (and popsicles) to help keep us cool. There are rumors we will have a bikini contest, stayed tuned for more!

Have a nice weekend and try to keep cool! Be safe kiddos going back to school!

We had a really fun bingo session today. We had 16 residents play! We played 50's music before we started to get everyone in the mood. We distributed mini candy bars donated by the Greentop Community Church for Christmas in July. Ms. Maddie came by and brought little furbaby Rosie for a visit who will be 1 year old tomorrow. Ms. Maddie will begin nursing school this month. She will make a great licensed nurse but is already a great CNA! Have a nice weekend!

The Kirksville Senior Songsters performed Thursday, July 31 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home. They have been performing for 42 years. This was their last Nursing Home performance as the will sadly disband this summer. Mr. James Barnet is their Director. They performed a wonderful gospel cantata. The residents and others in attendance gave warm applause and enjoyed their talent.

Ms. Irene M. got her hair done by Ms. Rose for this special occasion as well. Have a nice weekend from the staff and residents at the Schuyler County Nursing Home.

We held our July birthday party Wednesday. Mr. Ben was our only resident who had a birthday in July. We served homemade chocolate and vanilla ice cream and crushed toppings to make blizzards. They turned out so well, good job making the ice cream Ms. Taryn!

We are getting ready to jump into August and getting the back to school theme bulletin board put up featuring Snoopy, Ms. Taryns' art work.

We are planning a summer beach party in August and the Schuyler County Library will come and do bingo this month.

We have the Senior Songsters from Kirksville coming to perform at 6:30 pm tonite in the dining hall if anyone would like to attend!

The Greentop Community Church organized by Toady Ledford put on Christmas in July at the Schuyler County Nursing Home on July 28. Vickie, Carolyn, Dorothy and Lola came from the church and helped Ms. Taryn distribute two big carts of Christmas presents with a lot left over to use in the bingo store! Thank you kindly!
