The Fire Service, social justice work and our planet lost a courageous pioneer. Michelle Kammerer, my friend and sometimes co-trainer, died last week.
We've got it now, rest easy.

A recent order aimed at destroying independent regulatory agencies isn’t just about taking control of the state—it’s a giant cash-grab in disguise.

More than 64,500 pregnancies have resulted from r**e in the 14 states that banned abortion since Roe v. Wade was overturned, according to research by JAMA Internal Medicine. The majority of states with total bans on abortion don’t have exceptions for r**e. And those that do have exceptions require victims to report the r**e to authorities, something that only happens in a small fraction of sexual assaults.

WHY is this not on every news feed?
This is not some politically biased speculation – this is according to research by JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Assn) Internal Medicine.

IF men r**ed 64,500 women who got pregnant – how many women did men r**e, who did not get pregnant?

WHY are these doubled crimes (r**e then forced pregnancy) not bigger news?
Because it’s misogyny-normal. Just ordinary, every day, woman-hating.

FACT: Only MEN can stop r**e.

NM IS A HOT SPOT—

We are in the middle of our second largest case surge and our fifth largest hospitalization surge….

Regionally, cases are stabilizing in the Northeast, but new hot spots have taken hold in the West and mid-Atlantic. South Carolina is the acceleration leader (+113%) followed by Montana (+110%), Arizona (+109%), New Mexico (+106%), and Alabama (+97%). …

The global average of reported cases and deaths continue to decline across the world. There are a few exceptions, most notably in Taiwan, Portugal, Australia, and the United States. It’s not entirely clear if we can continue to judge the global situation by comparing per capita case rates across c...

I’m glad to see this and think we already are in huge trouble.

Health impact seems important to me - should’ve be a concern a long time ago.

This week I’m diving deep into long COVID. We’ve been so focused on the pandemic’s impact on lives lost that we’ve neglected to recognize health lost. This mini-series will be 5 posts in total on long COVID: burden, impact on specific organs, predictors, kids, and treatment. This is

It looks like Omicron has peaked in the United States and in many countries across the globe. Case patterns may uptick with the introduction of subvariant lineage, BA.2, but with a little luck we will largely be on our decent. And I can’t help but notice my inbox piled with great questions:

156 years ago today, union soldiers brought news to slaves in Galveston Texas, that they were free. Two and a half years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation. As of this week, Juneteenth (June 19) is now a U. S. national holiday. While creating a holiday to recognize the freedom from slavery can be seen as "too little, too late," it does clearly acknowledge that slavery existed. And that is existed on such a massive scale that it required a Federal Executive order (the Emancipation Proclamation) to force an end to the inhumanity. Slavery may be technically ended, but racial injustice has not.

"What people want is very simple. They want an America as good as its promise." Former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan
