October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month

As a nurse practitioner, I want to take a moment to honor this month and the incredible individuals, families, and communities who remind us every day what it means to embrace diversity and celebrate ability. 💛💙

Down syndrome does not define a person—it is simply one part of their story. With love, support, and opportunities, individuals with Down syndrome thrive as students, employees, friends, and neighbors.

If you are unsure how important inclusion is, watch the TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8AUYAth/) of a young girl with a disability who stops and stares at an ad — a girl just like her smiling from a wheelchair. She saw herself represented, not as someone to be pitied, but as someone strong, beautiful, and full of possibility. In that moment, her eyes lit up with recognition — a reminder that when the world chooses inclusion, it gives every child the chance to see their own worth reflected back at them. 💛💙

To anyone who needs to hear this:

A good friend recently reminded me that it is amazing how the negative things in our life seem to shout while the positive things seem to whisper. We see the criticism but not always the kindness, hear the complaints but not always the encouragement, notice the problems but not the quiet solutions that are happening all around us.

The truth is, there are so many good things happening in our lives - acts of love, moments of peace, reasons to smile - that simply do not get the same spotlight as the negativity does. Just because we don’t always see it or hear it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Choosing to focus on the good doesn’t mean ignoring the challenges - it means reminding ourselves that beauty, kindness, and hope are always present too. So here is to noticing the small wins, celebrating the quiet joys, and leaning into the good and positive things that surround us every single day!!!

Women: Feeling “Off” But Not Sure Why? It Could Be Hormone Dysfunction.

At Hope and Healing NP Services, we understand how hormonal imbalances can affect every aspect of your life — from your energy levels and sleep to mood, metabolism, and more. Whether you’re in pre-menopause, navigating perimenopause, or adjusting to life post-menopause, your hormones play a major role in how you feel each day.

• There are ways to feel better — naturally and effectively.
• You are not imagining your symptoms.
• You can feel like yourself again.

If you’re experiencing fatigue, anxiety, or simply don’t feel like yourself, let’s talk. Together, we’ll get to the root cause and create a personalized plan to help you restore balance and feel your best.

A little change goes a long way.

I’m excited to share that I’ve officially updated my business name from Heather Leindecker, NP to Hope & Healing NP Services.

This change reflects more than just a name — it marks a new chapter, personally and professionally. It honors where I’ve been, embraces the growth that’s come with change, and looks ahead with hope for what’s next.

The heart of my work hasn’t changed. I’m still here to offer the same compassionate, individualized care — now under a name that feels more aligned with the journey I walk alongside my patients every day.

Thank you for being part of this next step.

The Advocacy Network for Children is one of the MOST important resources we have available in our community. I will always be thankful and honored to be a part of this amazing team!!!

Feature Friday 📣

This Friday we are featuring Heather Leindecker, Advocacy Network for Children Board Member. Heather joined our board in July 2021. Heather is the current Secretary of the board, serving on the Executive Committee and the Chair of the Fundraising Committee.

When asked, why do you serve on our board? Heather responded with “As a nurse practitioner, I want to make a difference especially in the mental health world. The Advocacy board is invested in the health and well being of the children it serves and I feel lucky to be a part of that.”

We are so grateful to have Heather serve on our board and we can’t thank her enough for all she does for our agency!
