October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month
As a nurse practitioner, I want to take a moment to honor this month and the incredible individuals, families, and communities who remind us every day what it means to embrace diversity and celebrate ability. 💛💙
Down syndrome does not define a person—it is simply one part of their story. With love, support, and opportunities, individuals with Down syndrome thrive as students, employees, friends, and neighbors.
If you are unsure how important inclusion is, watch the TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8AUYAth/) of a young girl with a disability who stops and stares at an ad — a girl just like her smiling from a wheelchair. She saw herself represented, not as someone to be pitied, but as someone strong, beautiful, and full of possibility. In that moment, her eyes lit up with recognition — a reminder that when the world chooses inclusion, it gives every child the chance to see their own worth reflected back at them. 💛💙
