Meet Chris Savage, REC Program Director and keynote speaker for the National Conference on Youth Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery.

Chris Savage brings over a decade’s worth of experience providing innovative addiction peer recovery support in a range of clinical settings, with a sub-specialization in supporting adolescents and young adults.

In recognition of the 2026 Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” we highlight Joseph L. White. Dr. White spent most of his career at the University of California at Irvine as a professor, but he also made important contributions as a dean, clinician, and consultant.

Dr. White’s article “Towards a Black Psychology,” published in 1970 in Ebony Magazine, helped start a movement to better understand psychological approaches for the Black experience. He also inspired future leaders by supporting the education of many students of color. He founded the Educational Opportunity Program, which has helped thousands of first generation, low income students in California.

On World Day of Social Justice, we are reminded of the challenges millions face, often through no fault of their own, in accessing basic necessities like housing, employment, healthcare, and education. As we reflect on these injustices, it's up to all of us to work together in creating a world where social justice is not just an ideal, but a reality for everyone.

In recognition of the 2026 Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” we highlight Beverly Greene. Dr. Greene is known as the “Pioneer of Intersectional Psychology” and has taught many students about cultural diversity and mental health. She earned her master’s and doctorate degrees at Adelphi University and later worked as a staff psychologist at Kings County Municipal Hospital in Brooklyn in the Inpatient Child Psychiatry Division.

While working at Kings County Municipal Hospital, Dr. Greene was asked to teach her mostly white colleagues about important things to consider when helping their mostly Black patients. This led her to write about her experiences, which helped her begin a teaching career at St. John’s University. She still teaches about cultural diversity and how it connects to mental health at St. John’s today.
