Furnace Brook Physical Therapy

Furnace Brook Physical Therapy Furnace Brook Physical Therapy has been serving the needs of the South Shore area since 1987.

We moved into our newly constructed 7,000 square foot clinic in August, 2011. We are very proud to be the first medical practitioner to own an onsite therapy pool in Quincy; custom designed for an orthopedic and sports medicine population. The clinic is located less than a mile from the Red Line Quincy Center train station as well as on a bus line serving Quincy Center.

Building better balance, one hop at a time 👣

Today’s focus:
✅ Single limb stability – training strength and control
✅ Balance + proprioception – improving joint awareness
✅ Deceleration mechanics – learning to control force through closed chain movement
✅ Offloading the peroneals – easing lateral foot/ankle strain to prevent overload with band under great toe

Whether you’re recovering from injury or dialing in your performance, this kind of focused work is key to ankle rehab and injury prevention 💪

Why train one leg at a time?

Single leg exercises help improve balance, stability, and correct muscle imbalances—key for injury prevention and performance. Whether you’re recovering, training, or just trying to move better, don’t skip the single-leg work!

Shown are some of our favorite single limb activities - single leg bridge, single leg RDL with a kettlebell and at the keiser machine (added glute challenge!), and a single leg chop focusing on deceleration.

SHOUT OUT putting in that work!

Train smart, stay upright. That’s all for our new segment: MOTION OF THE WEEK

Kristina Lockhart, nee Simkus, was with us for many years pre-Covid and is now working at PACE in Boston as a Staff OT. Kristina always brings a smile with her and our clinic was blessed by having her work with us.
