Ever thought about a career in family medicine?

Our resident physicians recently visited Liberty Schools to connect with students in grades 9–12 and share what it’s like to train and work in medicine.

Students had the chance to:
👂Use an otoscope to see inside the ear on a screen
🩺Listen to their own heartbeat with a stethoscope
❓Ask questions and hear real stories from resident doctors

It was a hands-on, engaging experience that brought health care careers to life.

Thank you to Liberty Schools for creating this opportunity at the Liberty School Career Fair. Experiences like these help inspire the next generation of physicians and strengthen our communities.

On Doctors’ Day, we recognize the physicians who show up for our communities every day.

At SIU Medicine, that care goes far beyond clinic walls. Our doctors serve in a Federally Qualified Health Center, helping bring care closer to home for patients across Quincy and surrounding rural counties. They lead as medical directors in nursing homes, provide care at Transitions of Western Illinois, and support outreach through organizations like the Salvation Army, Quanada and other community locations.

From back-to-school events to year-round partnerships, this work is about more than access. It is about trust, continuity and meeting people where they are.

Today, we thank our physicians for their commitment to improving health across the region and for the difference they make in every life they touch.

Curious minds, bright futures.

Dr. Sana Khan and Dr. Andrew Peterson connected with local eighth-grade students at the second annual Career Spark STEAM Expo in Quincy. The event brings students and employers together to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

Students got a hands-on look at family medicine, including:
🩺Using an otoscope to look inside the ear
🩺Listening to heartbeats with a stethoscope
🩺Asking questions about medical school, residency and daily life as a doctor

The energy in the room was inspiring. Students from Quincy and surrounding rural communities came ready to learn and explore what a future in medicine could look like. Moments like this help spark interest early and show students what is possible in health care.
