At Bluestem, we prioritize preventive health for all of our patients at every stage of life!

We have a special place in our hearts for our senior patients, which is why we focus on connecting with each of our Medicare patients every year through an Annual Wellness Visit (AWV). These visits are so important because they emphasize preventive care, help create a personalized health plan, support early detection of potential issues, and keep patients up to date on recommended screenings and immunizations. All of this leads to better long-term health and reduced risk of chronic disease.

We are incredibly grateful for our amazing Care Manager, Brianna Miller, who works closely with our senior patients to ensure they receive the best care possible in their later years. Brianna brings compassion, dedication, and genuine care to every interaction, truly being that supportive arm around our patients.

In 2025, Brianna and the Bluestem team completed over 500 Annual Wellness Visits which is an incredible accomplishment!

It is only January but as your high school senior prepares for life after graduation, help protect them from Meningococcal B (MenB)—a rare but serious infection that can become life-threatening quickly.

💉 Prevention is a 2-dose vaccine, given six months apart.
Now is the perfect time to start the series so your student is fully protected before leaving home.

Teens and young adults (16–23) are at higher risk, especially those living in dorms, attending college or trade school, joining the military, or spending time in close social settings.

Festive Friday at Bluestem Clinic!

As this is our final Festive Friday before the big day, we recognize that this holiday season is not festive for everyone. This time of year can be especially difficult for those who have lost loved ones. At Bluestem, we grieve when patients pass away, and we grieve alongside their families.

Our hearts are with all who are hurting this season. This Festive Friday is dedicated to those holding memories of past holidays close and remembering the love, the laughter, and the moments that continue to live on.

Sometimes, memories are our greatest gift, even when we feel sadness and long for holidays past.

We were honored to care for a former patient who made the four-hour drive to Bluestem when she couldn’t get an appointment in the timeframe she needed in her current city. We were happy to get her seen and make sure she had everything she needed. At Bluestem, we’ll always do our best to get patients in, whether it’s same day or as soon as possible.

Dr. Machen was especially surprised by a very thoughtful thank-you, perfectly tailored to his love of KU!

We’re bringing Christmas cheer with our festive gear every Friday this month!

Our team is also staying active through the holiday hustle by taking what we learned at the Empowering Women Through Wellness event back in November and keeping movement a priority by exercising throughout the day.
