Hurricane Helene status update
September 28, 2024
Presbyterian Home and Retirement Community in Quitman, was in the direct path of Hurricane Helene after it made landfall September 26, 2024. We are currently on generator power and able to maintain necessary services for the residents. We are preparing for an extended use of the generator due to the prolonged power outage in our area.
There is no significant damage to any of the buildings on our campus. Water and sewer service are fully functional. The kitchen is operating with our usual supply of food. Medical, sanitation, and other supplies are also sufficient. Telephone lines, cell service, and Internet service are intermittent in our area.
“We are experiencing the same outages that our neighbors in South Georgia are experiencing,” said Rhett Partin, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia COO. “We are thankful that we are able to meet the needs of all our residents at this time. There have been no significant medical events, no resident injuries, no transfers to hospitals, and no evacuations. We are doing all we can to maintain the highest level of service and compassionate care for our residents.”
While the region’s communications systems suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Helene, we are making every effort to communicate with the families of our residents if there are significant changes to conditions on the campus.
We will provide additional updates as the recovery process continues.
