LCS Racine

LCS Racine LCS provides training and community engagement for youth and adults of varying abilities... The organization was created in a partnership between Mrs. John H.

LCS began its existence as Curative Workshop of Racine in 1949 and was located on Northwestern Avenue. (Katie) Batten and the Junior League of Racine. LCS began providing outpatient therapeutic service in 1951 by offering occupational, physical, and speech therapy services to the Racine community. Through the years, LCS evolved into providing a variety of other vocational service options to the Racine and outlying communities. The Therapeutic Services Division was transferred to All Saints Medical Center in 1995. When LCS moved into its current location on Lincolnwood Court, the organization's name changed to Lakeside Curative Services. While Lakeside Curative Services is still the agency's full legal name, since 2015, its initials - LCS - have been used to brand the organization. Today, LCS offers individuals with disabilities community-focused employment and community-centered engagement opportunities. LCS believes that "potential is limitless," and through the services that it offers, promotes equal opportunities in the community for all the people it serves.

Saturday marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act — a groundbreaking civil rights law that continues to open doors and break down barriers for millions of Americans with disabilities.

Signed into law on July 26, 1990, the ADA has paved the way for greater inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity in employment, education, transportation, and so much more.

At LCS, we honor this milestone by reaffirming our commitment to creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.

Robert recently began volunteering at the Racine Zoo, where he's lending a hand with craft preparation, beautifying zoo grounds, and assisting with light housekeeping. With the warm weather finally here, it’s the perfect time to visit the zoo and see all it has to offer!

Earlier this week, a group from Connect joined forces with other community members to help clean up the neighborhood around one of the Racine Cop Houses. It was a great opportunity to give back, and the group enjoyed working together with others to make a positive impact in the community.

LCS History and Mission

Through a cooperative community effort, Curative opened its doors in April of 1951. This was made possible through the hard work of the Junior League of Racine, the excellent leadership of Mrs. John H. (Katie) Batten, and the cooperative efforts of local industry, the labor force, and the medical community. The facility design and initial programs were developed under the direction of C. Margaret Gleave, the founding Executive Director.

Today, LCS continues to provide hands on learning experiences specific to career development by offering skills training, job development, educational workshops and placement services to provide people with varying abilities an opprtunity to work in the community.

We provide training and community engagement for youth and adults of varying abilities to enhance their self-esteem and quality of life.
