1.

HOPES Center serves people experiencing homelessness in the City and County of Racine Wisconsin. Street Outreach: HOPES's street outreach teams go out at night to locate, engage with and assist people who are homeless and living in places not meant for human habitation.

2. Supportive Services: Case managers assist people who are homeless and who have a mental health condition to access mental health services, income and housing.

3. Rapid Rehousing: HOPES Center's Rapid Rehousing program is part of Racine's coordinated entry system that provides housing assistance to people who are living in Racine's shelters or in places note meant for human habitation. We'd like to give a great big thank you to Racine Community Foundation for a grant award of $35,000 in support of HOPES' street outreach program. Our street outreach teams are out several nights per week meeting people who are homeless and sleeping outside where they are, in bus shelters, pavilions, tents in the woods, cars, abandoned structures, and places like that. Teams are out all year long and in all weather conditions, serving people on the streets at night.

We are grateful that, among all of the fabulous work that the Racine Community Foundation does in Racine County, they also support HOPES' efforts to help people end their homelessness. The Foundation's support keeps our street service going.

HOPES' Board of Directors and Ron Kroes (Buca's Bar and Grill) organized a cash raffle that took place at Buca's yesterday. Our thanks go out to Ron for hosting the event and all the work and contributions he put into it We also thank the Racine County Tavern League and Tavern League of Racine City for their generous donations, and the Racine Municipal Employee Credit Union for sponsorship. As always, thanks to Denny Shields and crew for finding additional ways to generate some addition money at an event and liven it up and to all of Buca's wonderful and generous patrons. As we closed, Buca's golf team also presented a $1,000 check in memory of Joe Grauwels, former board member, committee member, volunteer and support of HOPES. Thanks everyone!

We hand out a lot of Super Warmers during street outreach when the temperature gets down to single digits and we will have teams out on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights next week, and possibly Friday. Any donations of Super Warmers would be highly appreciated by people who are sleeping outside during that time.

ANNUAL HOMELESSNESS ASSESSMENT REPORT RELEASED:
HOPES is an active participant in Point-in-Time (PIT) Count that counts the number of people experiencing homelessness in Racine County on a single night each January. Racine's PIT Count is a small component of a much larger initiative that results in the Annual Homelessness Assessment Report (AHAR) that is prepared for Congress each year and highlights findings from the year's Point-in-Time Count.

The 2024 AHAR has been released and shows the largest number of people experiencing homelessness ever recorded in the United States on a single night: 771,480. Fortunately, Racine did not follow the 2024 PIT trend, showing a decrease from 241 people experiencing homelessness on January 25, 2023 down to 227 on January 24, 2024 (208 in shelter and 19 on the streets).
