Not all grief comes from death or endings.
Some grief comes from relationships that existed—but never felt safe, supportive, or emotionally available.

If the holidays stir sadness, tension, or a quiet sense of loss around family, you’re not alone.

My newest blog explores what it means to grieve the family relationships you never had—and how trauma-informed therapy helps create space for healing.

💚 Read more here:

Not all grief comes from loss through death. Learn how family trauma and emotional neglect create invisible grief—and how trauma-informed therapy helps you process unmet needs, regulate the nervous system, and heal attachment wounds.

Great post from A Touch of Zen! If you want some transformative healing, that will feel so good on your nervous system - a Brainspotting Intensive followed by a Reiki session is the sweet spot. 😍

One of the biggest misconceptions about Reiki is that it’s “𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵,” “𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘦,” or only for women and kids.

The truth?
Some of my most transformative Reiki clients are men—including veterans, first responders, and construction workers.

Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and deeply grounding, which makes it especially supportive for those who carry stress, hypervigilance, or stored trauma in the body. There’s no reliving stories, no forcing emotions, and no need to talk if you don’t want to.

For many men, Reiki helps with:
• Nervous system regulation
• PTSD and trauma support
• Chronic stress and burnout
• Sleep issues
• Emotional tension held in the body
• Feeling “on edge” without knowing why

And yes—𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭. Reiki has been shown to support the parasympathetic nervous system (the body’s rest-and-repair mode), helping the body shift out of fight-or-flight and into a state where healing can occur.

Reiki isn’t about being “spiritual.”
It’s about resetting the nervous system, calming the body, and creating safety from the inside out.

I’ve been sitting with what the next chapter of Rooted Counseling & Wellness could look like for 2026, and it feels like time to begin expanding to a team in a thoughtful, aligned way 🌱

Rooted Counseling is a therapy practice grounded in safety, compassion, and nervous-system-based care, supporting women healing from trauma, grief, and long-standing patterns of people pleasing and perfectionism. I’m deeply committed to creating a space that feels calm, intentional, and respectful of the healing process.

As I explore what’s next, I’d love to connect with holistic practitioners who feel aligned with this work—especially trauma-informed bodyworkers, energy healers with a grounded approach, Ayurvedic or integrative nutritionists, death doulas, and others offering complementary healing services.

If this resonates with you, feel free to email me or share this with someone who might be a good fit 🤍

A little bit of Monday fun and some background on me and why I became a therapist.

I’m Jennifer, the therapist behind Rooted Counseling & Wellness—and someone who never imagined taking the “nontraditional” path would lead me right where I’m meant to be.

At 35, as a single mom, I decided to go back to school and earn my bachelor’s degree. I wasn’t sure I could actually pull it off… but I did. Then I thought, why stop now? One degree turned into a Master’s, and what started as a personal goal became a professional calling.

My own healing journey—especially through therapy and Brainspotting—reshaped my life and inspired me to help others move through their own pain, confusion, and stuck places. It’s an honor to witness the resilience my clients bring into the room every single day.

Outside the office, I’m mom to a fiercely independent 17-year-old and my unofficial co-therapist, Sidney. When we’re not working, you’ll usually find us hiking, camping, or plotting our next trip to New Orleans.

Here’s to taking unexpected paths—and finding purpose along the way. 🌿

Following up from yesterday’s post:
Once you’ve identified where you’re stretched thin… what’s the next step? Awareness is helpful, but many people feel stuck when it comes to action.

My clients know I’m a firm believer in using structured tools—and yes, I absolutely love my wheels. The next one I want to share is the Self-Care Wheel.

If you’re unsure how to support yourself in a specific area, or you can’t quite name what would genuinely “fill your cup,” this wheel offers clear, practical ideas across multiple domains. It’s designed to help you move from vague intentions to something grounded and achievable.

I’ll attach it here so you can explore it at your own pace. Let it guide you toward one small, meaningful shift.

This holiday week, I want to take a closer look at what “self-care” actually means.
We hear the word constantly, yet many people quietly wonder if it’s overrated—especially if journaling, spa days, or expensive routines don’t resonate. But self-care isn’t about doing more. It’s about understanding what actually supports you.

One simple tool is a Wellness Wheel. It breaks wellbeing into different areas (emotional, physical, social, etc.) so you can see where you’re stretched thin and where you’re more resourced than you thought. The goal isn’t perfection—just clarity.

Have you ever noticed a painful pattern in your relationships… and immediately felt scared you’ll repeat it forever?

That fear is so common—and so human.

When trauma shapes the nervous system, old patterns can feel automatic, familiar, or even “normal,” even when they’re hurting us. But familiar does not mean permanent.

In my newest blog, I share why these patterns form, why they feel so hard to break, and how trauma therapy and Brainspotting actually rewire the brain through neuroplasticity.
Real change isn’t about trying harder—it’s about helping your brain and body learn a new way to experience safety, connection, and love.

💚 Read the full post here.
You are not doomed. You are rewiring.

Are you doomed to repeat the same relationship patterns? Learn how trauma therapy and Brainspotting change the brain through neuroplasticity. Discover why old cycles feel so familiar—and how somatic, trauma-informed therapy helps you create new pathways for safety, connection, and lasting change.
