Allow them…

I know I’m not alone in this… as a mom, one of my biggest challenges is simply letting them be. Sure, I could do things faster, neater, and more efficiently—I have years of experience. But giving them the space to learn, practice, and even stumble before bouncing back is what truly matters.

Today, I’m thankful for those unexpected days off that slow us down, encourage us to be present, and grant us the freedom to let them explore.

Wishing all my fellow Midwesterners a joyful snow day!

A gentle reminder...

"If today gets difficult, remember the smell of coffee, the way sunlight bounces off a window, the sound of your favorite person’s laugh, the feeling when a song you love comes on, the color of the sky at dusk, and that we are here to take care of each other." - Nanea Hoffman

When things seem to be at their darkest, look around you. Think of a few good things, and be grateful that you are here, in this time, and that you get to experience them. Being grateful for life, for the small things, can change the course of your day.

Change isn’t about the loudest voice or the strongest opinion; it’s about the quiet, consistent actions that speak to who we are. Words alone may inspire momentarily, but it’s our example that creates lasting impact.

When we live our values and embody kindness, integrity, and compassion, we set an example that resonates far more deeply than words ever could. People may forget what we say, but they remember how we made them feel.

The world shifts not through debates or critiques, but through the powerful impact of one person living authentically. By aligning our actions with our beliefs, we inspire others to do the same.

True influence comes from being the change we wish to see. When we lead with heart and purpose, our actions show others what it means to live with intention, creating ripples that spread far beyond ourselves.

What are your 3?!

Let’s be a family that’s kind to each other.

A family that looks up from their devices and smiles big when we see the other arrive home.

And asks about their day, because even though you don’t always feel like answering, it’s sure nice to be asked.

Let’s see – really see – one another every. single. day.

Let’s be a family that’s kind to each other.

When big emotions hit, a family that takes a deep breath and exhales slowly before answering. Who tries to respond instead of react.

And when words spew out, pelting across the room instead of controlled, thought-out responding, is quick to apologize. Who takes ownership over their actions.

Let's recognize that we're each other’s safe place, so we can all hold it together out there and unravel at home. Let’s put hard moments in perspective and freely give grace.

Let’s be a family that’s kind to each other.

Big kids who notice when the parents are juggling all-the-things and are quick to help in the kitchen.

Or parents who see their teens studying for the big test so make their lunch for the next day and bring them a glass of water.

Let’s be aware, help lighten loads, and try to meet needs.

Because the world out there is tricky. Navigating it can be like eating spaghetti with a spoon - messy, partially effective, and just plain hard. So, let’s recognize that small acts of daily kindness send big love through all of our lives.

Kind attitudes uplift.

Kind words heal.

Kind actions revive.

And doing our part matters: if we want to live in a home that is kind, we need to be the type of person who is kind. Every family member is important. Vital, even. Each must daily show kindness, so we create the kind of nourishing home that we all want to come home to.

It won’t be flawless.

Perfect families don’t exist.

But families who continually come back to kindness do.

So, let’s be that.

Let’s be a family that’s kind to each other.

This morning, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Park High School for their "SEE You Future" event. It was wonderful to help students explore potential careers in the wellness industry.

Let this picture be what is remembered from today. A 5k student was fretting because his art project was going to get wet, so an 8th grade student provided an improvised umbrella, and this 8th grade student performed the act of kindness without any adult prompting and with no idea that others were watching!

Many of us are navigating life in a state I
refer to as functional stress.

We're making it through our days, but not always in the best way.

Do any of these signs of stress resonate with you?

Consider taking a few moments during your day to pause. Take three intentional breaths during that time. Allow your mind and body the space to simply exist. This small, time-efficient mindfulness practice can help break the cycle of functional stress.
