After facing life-altering health challenges, including months of dialysis and multiple transplants, Radford University nursing graduate Taylor Hudson ’26 turned her experience into purpose. 👩‍⚕️

“Being on the patient side of healthcare for that long gave me a completely different perspective,” she reflected. “I saw firsthand how much of a difference nurses make – both in good ways and ways that could have been better. That’s what ultimately led me to choose nursing.”

Hudson’s desire to help others extends beyond humans. She also runs Bad Decisions Shepherd Rescue, which rehabilitates and rehomes dogs in need. 🐶

Meet Veronica Vann, a proud Highlander (and recent ) from Chesterfield County! ❤️‍🩹 Her passion for healthcare began early as she explored the field through an EMT program in high school.

“I did an EMT program through my county in high school as ‘medicine sampler platter,’” Vann said. “I wanted to know if I liked medicine before I invested four years of education in medical training.”

🩺 That experience led her to apply to both nursing and emergency services at Radford University. Ultimately, Vann chose nursing for its diverse opportunities.

“My time at Radford has made me realize that I love healthcare,” Vann said. “I love being there for and helping people. Radford has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow as a nurse. I don’t think I would be here if it weren’t for Radford.”

From virtual connections to real-world impact 🌍

Radford University College of Nursing students took their learning beyond the classroom, traveling to the Netherlands after building meaningful connections through a virtual exchange program.

From exploring hospitals and universities to experiencing Dutch culture firsthand, this journey deepened their understanding of global healthcare and the importance of communication across cultures.

What started as sharing photos and conversations turned into lifelong memories, and even friendships that crossed the Atlantic 💙
