Radford College of Nursing is thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity! Our organization has partnered with the Virginia Nurses Association to provide our dedicated students and faculty with free access to their annual Legislative Summit!

The program will be live September 25th and available on-demand through March 31st, 2026.
The summit will cover the challenges in nursing sectors, how to advocate for nursing, and the statewide implications of the upcoming November election.

This is an incredible opportunity for professional growth and engagement. Let’s champion the future of nursing together!

On June 26, we had some members of our executive leadership team from the College of Nursing attend the 20/26 Hill Day which included a meeting with congressman Morgan Griffith. Pictured from left to right is Dean Downey, Dr. Carey Cole Assistant Dean for Graduate Nursing, Dr. Marjorie Young Chair of Graduate programs and on the far right is Dr. Shannon Souther Undergraduate Chair of Pre-Licensure program.

The Radford University nursing program is dedicated to the education and preparation of nursing students. Recently, I welcomed some leaders from their nursing program for a meeting in my DC office.

Dr. Sarah Knoeckel, a current faculty member, received the 2025 Education Award from the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners (VCNP). The award honors a member who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to nurse practitioners in the area of education and patient care.

Radford University College of Nursing and the Virginia Department of Behavior Health and Development Services are co-hosting a Behavioral Health Summit on Friday, April 11th, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Radford University Kyle Hall 340. This summit is free to Nurses and healthcare Staff!

The theme for the day is Fostering Connection in Nursing Practice: Cultivating Healthy Resilience in Behavioral Health Care. Nelson Smith, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, will provide an overview of the behavioral health system in Virginia. National speaker Donna Wright, MS, RN, NPD-BC will deliver the keynote on relationship-based care. VNA continuing education hours will be available.

Alumni Spotlight 🎉
May 2024 MSN Administration graduate Jeanell Webb-Jones was recently appointed by Governor Youngkin to serve on the Virginia Board of Nursing from 2024 to 2027. As a board member, Jeanell will be responsible for governing laws for nursing practice; making, amending, and enforcing regulations; setting standards in nursing education; ensuring nurses are updated with continuing education; collecting and analyzing nursing workforce data, and many other important duties.
Since becoming a nurse in 2010, Jeanell’s goal has been to serve on the Board of Nursing to positively impact the profession. After being a nurse for over 14 years, she realizes her purpose and passion encompasses patient advocacy, nurses, and the nursing profession. Being a voice and engaging in shared decision-making and policy change extends Jeanell’s commitment to healthcare and building healthier communities.
Congratulations Jeanell! The CON is proud of your achievement!
